Help settle this argument between me and DH

We are going away for a 3 day break. Leaving in a couple of hours.

I just did a load of washing and realised that there's a t shirt I really want in there so it needs to be dried. Bear in mind that I'm 2 months PP and only comfortable In certain clothes so they are washed quite regularly.

I want to tumble dry the t shirt and hang the rest out as it won't take long on it's own. He thinks it's a waste to just tumble dry the tshirt and thinks I should tumble dry it all to 'get my moneys worth' (hmm). If I tumble dry all of it it'll take bloody ages and cost more (I'm not even worried about the cost as I rarely use the bloody thing!).

He's now looking at me like I'm the sole cause of global warming...

Yes, this is a ridiculous argument but please tell me I'm right?! Grin

As long as you take it out when it's dry, or have a tumble dryer with a sensor that stops when the washing is dry, I don't see the problem with doing one item when you need it quickly.

In fact, it's so weird for him to make a fuss about this, I'd be asking him what was really wrong.

Could you not all get excited about your 3 day break, instead of arguing, its the new year, and you are not allowed to argue this week, !!

InsomniacAnonymous · 03/01/2019 12:16

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername Pregnant? I thought PP stood for Post Partum. Confused

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 03/01/2019 12:19

Tumble dry the t shirt, because he’s not your boss!

But also you are right - your t shirt won’t take long to dry and if you do a whole load it will take much longer and use way more energy.

UglyDelicious · 03/01/2019 12:29

@1forAll74 we aren't arguing. He is being stubborn...

You're going away in a car and he's worried about the environmental impact of tumble drying 1 T shirt?

PolkaDoting · 03/01/2019 12:37

Agree with the people saying that he’s not your boss. You are a grown up, you can do what you want.

FrankieChips · 03/01/2019 12:39

Sorry, I agree with him. Might as well do the whole load if you’re going to tumble dry.

MsHopey · 03/01/2019 12:45

You said you are hanging the rest of the washing out.
Like leaving it outside for 3 days in January? I might be interpreting wrong but it would all go in the tumble dryer if it were me (makes clothes much softer too).

dorisdog · 03/01/2019 12:56

Iron it dry Grin that's what we did as teenagers.

Is he not worried about the carbon emissions of the car journey? (joke)

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 03/01/2019 13:00

My thoughts too.
I would have done the t-shirt on it's own and then put the rest of the stuff in afterwards.

Holidayshopping · 03/01/2019 13:02

I just wouldn’t have told him the dilemma and tumble dried exactly what I wanted.

Consolidateyourloins · 03/01/2019 13:04

Tell him to sit

Great typo Grin

Tell him you'll plant a little tree in the garden in spring to make it up to the environment!

Tell him the Chinese have just planted potato seeds on the moon to offset it.

UglyDelicious · 03/01/2019 13:04

@MsHopey on a clothes horse in the conservatory...

@FrankieChips but our tumble drier has a setting where it knows when something is dry so it'll only take 15 minutes or so... if I put the whole load in including towels etc it'll take 1.5 hours at least!

OP posts:
MumW · 03/01/2019 13:06

Surely it takes more time/energy to tumble dry a whole load rather than just a single t-shirt.

AfterSchoolWorry · 03/01/2019 13:09

Tumble dry the t shirt on it's own and tell him to mind his business!

Imalittleelf · 03/01/2019 13:16

Dry your t shirt.... give him £1 to cover the cost and plant a shrubbery to make up for the tiny hole you have just made in the ozone layer

OnlyaMan · 03/01/2019 13:20

Tumble-drying a full load will take longer and use more energy. But drying one item will mean a lot of hot air in the dryer will just be expelled through the vent, by-passing the single item. Consider...….would you dry just one sock?
Put a small load in the machine to fully use the hot air-your own judgement will tell you how much.
So you are both right!
Enjoy your break!

Inertia · 03/01/2019 13:38

Your DH is being ridiculous.

Lweji · 03/01/2019 13:41

You could probably have dried the t-shirt on his hot air alone. Wink

SleepingStandingUp · 03/01/2019 13:44

Will clothes dry in the line in this weather before you leave though? So I'd prob do a quickie in dryer with t-shirt then as ours turns itself off I'd put the rest in and let it turn itself off

Hopoindown31 · 03/01/2019 13:45

He is right (you still have to heat up the whole dryer either way so far more efficient with a correctly sized load) but you are about to leave so expediency is more important surely?

Although it is always nice to see posters who believe the correct response to any situation where your DH disagrees with you is to tell them to "fuck off" or similar - healthy.

Clairaloulou · 03/01/2019 13:50

I would've hung the t shirt on a hanger and hung it in the car. Surely that's common sense?

AliceScarlett · 03/01/2019 13:53

yabu, waste of money, water and power.

But....I would Grin
