Holiday with 15 month old whilst heavily preggers ?

Hi all,

So DD1 is 13 months old now, and am expecting DD2 in late April.

We really feel like we need a little break somewhere so the obvious time to do it would be before dd2 arrives. I was thinking early march, I’ll be about 32-33 weeks pregnant. DD1 is very VERY energetic, never sits still , needs constant stimulation and is into everything. She is walking well just now so will be even more mobile in March! She hates being in the car seat, sling or buggy unless asleep.... just needs to pottering around a safe environment where she can walk and play with objects all the time.

I suggested Butlins as the have the “just for toddlers” breaks which start in March and I though , realistically , if DD1 is happy we will all have a decent time. DH says “no way am I going to Butlins and no way will I go somewhere full of kids”!! He is the one really moaning that we need a break and won’t have chance when DD2 is here , yet has suggested nothing himself !

We’ve previously taken DD to Scotland and Cornwall to stay in cottages (she was 7-9 months then) and even then it was hard travelling , keeping her safe yet entertained ... and we had to ferry sooooo much stuff , I actually found it exhausting as I ended up doing all the planning / packing / finding ways to entertain DD.

DH has always been into travelling and I think has developed a bit of a victim complex around not being able to have so much freedom / having to be realistic about what will work with a young toddler. I’m tempted to tell him just to go away with his mates and quit moaning , however we do really need to be doing something nice as a family. We don’t have anyone to look after Dd1 so she will be coming with us if we do go away.

Has anyone any ideas ?

We are based on north east England so for me proximity / ease of travel are important , as well as DD1 having plenty to do indoors and outdoors (could get bad weather). Nice scenes to look out on in the evening would be nice . Obvs I’ll be pretty pregnant so I won’t be up late , drinking , doing watersports etc. Going on a VERY short plane ride would also be an option.... I think I could keep DD happyish for an hour on my lap.

The other option is to wait till summer and go somewhere with an 19-20 month old and a 3ish month old ... or do both x
