To wonder if many people still do the National Lottery?

Sorry if this has been done recently but was just pondering this today after seeing they are cutting one the Euromillions prizes later this month.

I stopped doing the main lottery years ago when they put the price up and made it harder to win but still put the Euromillions on when the jackpot is high. Will be stopping this too. Camelot have completely ruined it through sheer greed in my opinion and I really wonder how many people have stayed loyal?

I used to do it years ago but there are too many draws and now it’s £2 I decided I’d be better off keeping the £1 a week and having and extra £52 at the end of the year.

Not since they put the prices up and increased the number of balls - it’s so hard to win even a little amount now, what’s the point. Also, even if you’re only one away from the ‘jackpot’, the prize money is pretty crap!!

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 02/01/2019 20:57

I mean, the headline jackpot is always good, but the rest of the prize money is rubbish.

Like others, I gave up when the price went up and probability went down (I previously did £2 a week). Done the health lottery a couple of times, now I do syndicate betting on lottery outcomes with Lottoland on an app. Again, I have a massive £2/week budget, but I think that goes into a few different draws. Unlikely to win mega millions, but a share of a million would be ok!

Yes, we still do it.

megletthesecond · 02/01/2019 22:15

I stopped when it went up to £2 twice a week too.
I'd do it if it went back to once a week.

Rather like when I stopped watching eastenders when it went to 3-4 times a week.

happinessischocolate · 02/01/2019 22:34

Yep we've stopped, used to get 2 tickets s week and more if it was a big rollover but have stopped completely as it's a complete waste of time, you're lucky to get 1 number nowadays and as po said the prizes are crap.

I do £10 a month on the postcode lottery instead, a close friend won £1k just before Christmas, haven't heard of any friends being lotto winners for years.

My DH used to spend £30 a month or so on the lottery but about a year ago I persuaded him to put it into premium bonds instead. He has won a £200 prize plus a few smaller ones already, plus you don't lose the initial stake, so he is way ahead of where he ever got with the lottery.
