Hi All

Not sure where to post, sorry if in wrong topic. Fell off all threads etc recently as not been well and couldn't keep up!

Experienced bright red blood on wiping today. Really bright!!

Tummy feeling a little crampy but I don't know if that is nerves or not.

Any thoughts?? Mainly looking for reassurance!! When should I be worried??

Sorry op, I'd be worried just now to be honest. Can you call the early pregnancy unit?

Seeleyboo · 02/01/2019 16:13

Ring your midwife and go to early pregnancy department. Hopefully it's nothing but go anyway.

OutPinked · 02/01/2019 16:16

Red blood is the main sign you should be worried. It isn’t always bad news though so I don’t think you should jump the gun.

Call your local early pregnancy unit to see if they can get you in for a scan. It may be that you need to see the GP first who will refer you for said scan, that’s how it worked in my local area.

All the best OP Flowers, early pregnancy is a terrifying time.

Girlicorne · 02/01/2019 16:18

I had this at around 7 weeks. I went to my GP and was sent straight to the early pregnancy unit. Call your MW/GP or go to EPU they will do a scan (I had an internal). DD is now 11. Really hope all is ok!

Jarline · 02/01/2019 16:19

Go to your nearest EPU, or phone your midwife to get referred to there immediately.

It could be something and it could be nothing, but you need to find out.

PumpkinPie2016 · 02/01/2019 16:20

Call your midwife for advice. They will probably send you to the early pregnancy unit (don't just turn up because you can't self refer to some - you couldn't in my area).

Hope everything is ok Flowers

Justkeepsmiling12 · 02/01/2019 16:28

I went to see my GP with bright red blood ...hadn't seen a midwife by then. They referred me to epu to have a scan.

I bled with both my pregnancies (bright red and clotty)

Platypusfattypus · 02/01/2019 16:28

I would go to a&e at this time to get things sorted out. That’s what your midwife will tell you to do. A&e can refer you to an ePub if there is one in your area.

Hope all is oj

Platypusfattypus · 02/01/2019 16:28

*ok sorry

Mumberjack · 02/01/2019 16:29

Yes find a way to get to the early pregnancy unit. Hoping all is ok Flowers

Sixgeese · 02/01/2019 16:34

If you have a midwife already, call your midwife, if not call your GP and get referred to your EPU.

Hopefully all is well, but at least you will know and be able to put your mind at rest.

I bled in two of my three pregnancies, and now have a 13, 11 and 9 year old around the house.

I do remember the panic I felt, especially when I was in an A&E department standing over a puddle of blood, so get checked out asap, and I really hope all is ok.

JudasPrudy · 02/01/2019 16:38

You need to be seen by EPU...could be subchorionic hematoma in which case things may be ok or an impending miscarriage (sorry but you already know that's what it could be) but you need a scan to see really.

sambasam · 02/01/2019 16:40

I have had bleeding in all pregnancies two were fine two were not, you really can’t tell, just need to go to EPu

BeanTownNancy · 02/01/2019 16:40

I bled about then. It was probably a tablespoon or so total of bright red blood. And I had cramping for the first 20-something weeks.

I called my midwife who told me to call the EPU and they saw me the next day for a scan. Everything was fine - my son is 2 now and I'm 20-something weeks pregnant with my second. I was told the cervix etc becomes quite sensitive to damage due to the hormones so can start bleeding after sex, heavy lifting (that's what I stupidly did) or strenuous exercise, etc.

Do get checked out though - you don't need the stress of not knowing.

SolemnlySwear2010 · 02/01/2019 16:40

Get to your nearest EPU. I had bright red blood from 6 weeks straight through to 13 weeks- it would start to tail off and then start heavy again after a few days.

I had to go for weekly scans as they couldn't find the cause but baby was never in any danger and she is now a very healthy and happy 4 year old Grin.

Wheresmrlion · 02/01/2019 16:49

I had this at a similar stage with two pregnancies. One was found to be a wound on my cervix so far away from baby and that baby is now 2. The other was very sadly the start of a miscarriage.

The only way to know is to go to the EPU. For my miscarriage the lovely midwife who initially looked at me upped the amount of blood I said I though I’d lost so that I would get a scan. I’m eternally grateful to her, although devastating at least I knew rather than it dragging on, I suspect I would have been sent home if it was less than a tablespoon. Worth bearing in mind.

I hope all is ok x

Somewhereovertherainbow13 · 02/01/2019 16:50

I hope you decide to get seen soon op. I had bright red bleeding from weeks 7-10 and baby was fine, there was no reason for it. Hopefully you have the same news, thinking of you x x

Queenie8 · 02/01/2019 16:53

Get checked over please.

I had a very heavy bleed at 9 weeks, scan next day, all was fine, complete rest for two weeks, and now have a dc in junior school.

Try not to worry, easier said than done. Good luck 🤞🏻

RightOcciputAnterior · 02/01/2019 16:55

I had two small bleeds, at 7 and 11 weeks. DS is now 5 days old and asleep next to me! Google your local EPU to see if you can self-refer; if not, ring your GP surgery and ask to be seen urgently today so they can refer you. Good luck.

seven201 · 02/01/2019 16:58

It depends on where you live. Where I live the gp has to refer you to the epu and then it's generally a few days until the scan. I had two red bleeds and my dd is running around my living room.

SirVixofVixHall · 02/01/2019 17:01

Yes this could be fine, I know women whose pregnancies have continued after a bright red bleed. I also know women who have miscarried, myself included. You need a scan. Very much hope all is well for you op.

Pastaagain78 · 02/01/2019 17:05

I had a big bright red bleed at 9 weeks. It was a sub haemorrhage. It was fine in the end.

IrishCypriot · 02/01/2019 17:10

Thank you so much for all of your responses. Almost cried going through them!
Midwife told me to go straight to A&E so here I am waiting!

Stupidly wasted an hour as I work at this hospital so should have come straight here from when I finished instead of coming home first. Was on autopilot as just panicked.

Will update hopefully soon!

I had heavy bleeding in both of my healthy pregnancies. 20 minutes of fairly heavy gushing around 10 weeks with my 1st and then 2 weeks of bright red bleeding from 7-9 weeks with my 2nd. No other complications with either after that though, rest was smooth sailing. Actually the only pregnancy I did have lots of bleeding was the one that ended in mc. Sometimes it’s just one of those things (mine was from my cervix, likely due to a burst/irritated blood vessels, which is annoying but totally harmless).

Better to get yourself an appointment at the EPU though and get it checked out. I found that very reassuring.

mindutopia · 02/01/2019 17:14

Should say only pregnancy I didn’t* have lots of bleeding..
