I've heard two years on average. Is this the case?

For staff, students, or trainees?

User600400 · 02/01/2019 15:02

For the young people who attend.

It depends who has placed them, I think if it's the Local Council as per an EHC plan it would be decided if it was a 52 week placement or a 36 week placement, this would be reviewed yearly and if the placement continued to meet need & they were happy there then they would most probably stay at least until normal school leaving age.

A relative of mine went to one from aged 16-19 (3 years).
There is a specialist college in my county. Most of the courses last 3 years although some of the local young people who have attended have had their placements reviewed every 12 months - that is done by the Local Authority who are funding the place rather than the college itself.
I know of at least 2 students who have stayed on after the 3 years for further independence skills training but i'm not sure if this was funded by education or social care.

Mine was there for 3 years. 19-22

Up to 3 years from 19 but it varies quite a lot. It is getting more difficult to get placements now. Local authorities will try to push for a local day placement and it may only be 16 hours.

Seems to be an average of three years then.
