Staying with my parents for a few days, they wanted the family around for lunch today as we weren’t all together for Christmas. DM did a buffet as my sisters DSC are fussy eaters instead of the traditional roast. Despite asking my sister what time to do lunch for my sister didn’t give a time, so we had things mostly ready for 12.30 just to pop pizzas and bits in the oven when they arrived. They get here at 13.45, last bits of food cooking, kids play, then food ready and everyone dives in.
Half an hour later my sis DP is rounding up the kids and saying goodbye, he says he’s taking them back to their mums then he’s going home to sit on the sofa in peace, he asks me to take Dsis and Dnephew home later. Everyone else is still eating.
As I’m tiding up I see him and the kids have put their plates in the kitchen still with loads of food on, one and a half slices of quiche, untouched slices of ham etc,
I just think it was all incredibly rude, why not just decline the invite or say you had to leave by a certain time?

Rude but maybe there had been an argument before they arrived that you didn’t know about or maybe one of them wasn’t well.

He sounds like a difficult person, but maybe his ex is very dogmatic about contact times? No need for your sister to rush off though; she could just chill out with her family without him. The food waste thing would irritate me but many kids are not great at self regulating in the face of a lovely buffet.

why did you need to take anyone home, why couldn't he do that ? i take it he is their df is there back story to this ?

So now I’ve read it again. They didn’t all go so it does sound like there was some issue that they didn’t want to discuss.

Don’t think there was an argument, didn’t pick up on any tension and DS is not usually good at hiding her feelings!
As far as I’m aware it’s a relaxed custody agreement, but surly they could have said when they arrived or gotten here earlier, I just felt really bad for my DM as she’d tried really hard to cater for them and then they turn up eat a few bits and leave!
