Stressed out with visiting relatives

It's been a bit busy this holidays with relatives on both sides and feeling very stressed with it. Do others really enjoy this os is it just me finds it really hard.

It seems to be made worse by visiting families with children, cousins etc plus the feeling they should get on / make friends etc. The reality has been DS1 first having much younger cousin get him to entertain him constantly while parents ignore, then other more teen cousins shrug and ignore him, but this is meant to be enjoyable. Also sometimes tricky with the different sexes as they get older, perhaps.

And some relatives once they have children seem to have got really boring / middle aged, going on and on about school / children like they have no life of their own, or about a single topic in great detail for ages. It just feels argh!

I know, we don't have to meet with family at festive times etc but it is not so easy to just say no and bugger off, but a friend and her family have gone off to Austria skiing this year and can see the attraction in just escaping!

It never used to be like this.

Resolve to do something completely different in December this year.

Maybe that is a plan Jess especially is what is happening is people asking to stay and this creeping up to several over time, if had plans could have a good excuse! We do have some relatives who moved abroad and stay there for christmas and can kind of understand this, now.

I think you have to just grin and bear it if you choose to visit. Keep the visits down to 1hr max or go skiing.

Haha, DH's relative does this and I love watching him lose the will to live on the phone.
