AIBU to not carry my mobile phone all the time?

I get WhatsApp messages from in laws but it takes me a while to check my phone. I think my MIL and SIL are offended by this. Granted I may not check my phone if it doesn’t ring for like a whole day. I have twin toddlers with special needs and my day just feels nonstop. I don’t have social media either which my SIL thinks is weird. I’m not sure, should I make more effort to carry my phone around or is it ok to just get to messaging people back when I can?

I carry mine in case of emergencies but often ignore it until I get home. I hate that feeling of being on call and expected to respond instantly.

This & no you're not wierd for not having "social media".

Yanbu, I sometimes don’t check mine for a couple of days & it is always on silent. No law to say we have to be constantly contactable.

That's the joy of text messages ... there is no need to reply instantly it's not like a phone call.

I ignore mine for weeks and deliberately so too.

So it's not just me hardly ever take mine out .CBA with it all people say what if there was an emergency well my mum and dad didn't have mobiles and we all survived .Do take it if say kids unwell or going some distance in car but apart from that don't bother .

I answer my phone/texts when and if I feel like it. Why shouldn't I? I answer my door the same way.

I'm old enough to remember the days before mobiles, social media, and 'constant contact' and we were uncontactable quite a bit of the time! We survived and no one got offended because we didn't answer the phone.

I always have my phone in my hand.. I still only answer phone calls and respond to texts when I want to. YANBU.
