On the 14thJuly, TalkTalk sent me a leter stating that the would be upgrading my exchange so I would loseconnection for

up to 20 minutes for making calls
Up to 4 hours recievcing calls
Up to 20 minutes Braodband.

The service was off when I tried to connect a t 6.15 yestarday morning, Ok I thought it will be bak on after breakfast (needed to email a new client and various other things onthe net.)

It wasnt back on before I had to go out so phoned then to find out why

9.00 Phone call One

'Oh sorry it must be taking longer than we though try again in a hour.'

12.00Phone call Two*

'Oh it can take up to 4 hours'
explained that it had been going on longer than 4 hours
'ok will check with the engineers, and get back to you'

1.00 Phone Call Three

'Oh sorry somebody should have got back to you, it will be activated today by 4.00'

4.30 Phone Call Four

' Oh it wont come on to line till after midninght'

8.00 today Phone Call Five

'Oh there must be something wrong with your landline, please will you open up ypur BT box and check the wiring'

WTF No I wont if there is nothing wrong and I open it Bt will not repair cos I have tampered with thier box'

'Well we cant help you then' Phone down

8.10 Phone Call *Six

'Oh it might be because the new adsl2 line is not combatible with you Modem'

Well shouldnt you have known that

'No you cant blame us its not our fault, its been a learning curve for us, we can send you a new modem in 7/14 days'

WTF At which point I totally lost it and cancelled my contract which they told me I couldnt, try getting the money was my reply, you have not kept your end of the contract,

Phoned Virgin, who I used to be with, a very lovely girl there (will never say anything about Liverpudlians again ) sorted my broadband to come on in 5/7 days and got me onto dial up so I at least could use the Internet.

Don't talk to me about Talk Talk! We had no end of problems with them. Awful company!

Devonshire · 27/06/2007 17:49

we too had an "update" and lost phone and internet for 3 days and even now, about 4 mths later, our caller display will not work properly and it has affected our ansaphone..

they promised compensation but we are still waiting..[tapping fingernails emoticon]

Pinkchampagne · 27/06/2007 17:52

Talk Talk never even sent us a modem, yet they charged us £70 for the pleaseure of cancelling, and then kept sending us monthly bills!!

Trying to get hold of anyone on the phone is a nightmare task too!

Pinkchampagne · 27/06/2007 17:52

Sorry "Pleasure!"

Shoshable · 27/06/2007 17:53

It was like talking to a blank wall, but what really got me was when he said it wasnt their fault and i couldnt blame them!!!!

Awful company.

Did you end up speaking to people underwater in India? Impossible company.

There is a reason they are cheap - their customer service is non-existent. We had simliar to OP problems and it went on and on and on and on and on and they never apologised!

Shoshable · 27/06/2007 18:01

Yep did speak to the underwater people who kept cutting me off!

Its really odd that.
If they were in Sheffield it would be more understandable...

OMG! Have just seen your post. TalkTalk are a bunch of cretins. I had eighteen months of correspondence with them culminating in a court summons.

Luckily, I kept a record of everything and I was DYING to go to court! Fortunately, all was settled but I still never saw £70 they owed me. I just couldn't be bothered with it anymore.

If you try and cancel any type of account with them, they just don't bother to process it. One day I was passed to six different departments in several different countries only to come full circle back to the first dept. I got so angry with them one day on yet another call I smashed a saucepan on the wall about six times (may have been a little PMTish that day as well)

I saw a TalkTalk man in Sainsburys and purposely walked past the stand. Well, I let him have it with both barrels when he asked if I was interested in TT Broadband.

Absolute total pants company. Spread the word....!

Avoid TalkTalk at ALL costs. They are useless. They're still trying to bill us after we severed all business with them 18 months ago. Dreadful corp.

Well done for sacking them. Hope Virgin is better for you.

TheHouseElf · 30/04/2010 16:52

Having the same nonsense from TalkTalk ourselves. Sent us final demand letter, before they'd even sent their invoice, at the end of March for telephone service we stopped with them 2 months beforehand. Said we'd not notified them - but we've a letter from them about switching provider, and they phoned us to see if they could do anything to make us stay with them before the change-over.

Yesterday received a letter from a debt collection agency that they've passed this onto. We've had trouble getting hold of our invoice off Vodaphone to "prove" to them when we switched over to another provider and when it happened, but we did explain all this to TalkTalk. Emailed that over beginning of the week, so hoping they will leave us in peace now.

Awful, awful company which we never want to deal with again. Sadly we've not found Vodaphone any better.

A millionth post for avoiding talk talk!

Took 12mnths (of an 18mnth contract) for them to connect us...and we were forced to pay for it.

Whenever you need to call them (which is regularly as internet never sodding works) you are on premium rate hold fo up to 2 hours (so they aren't cheap at all as you spend a fortune in bills) then you get the underwater people who say 'how may I help you' everytime they don't understand you and then hang up on you!!!!!

NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!

constantlytired · 30/04/2010 18:22

The worst company in the world to deal with, we were left without a landline for 2 weeks after a fault...everytime i called from mobile (cost a fortune), they said, yes they had fixed fault...on checking landline, no dialtone, everytime. I too phoned Virgin, phone was working next day. TalkTalk sales guy grabbed me in supermarket, i told him was worst customer service ever! - He said if it was so bad, how could they have won best customer service award in past couple of months - smug little git, don't believe a word of it.

ThorNogson · 30/04/2010 18:41

Just for a bit of balance here, Virgin Media didn't fix our phone line for 6 months. They are crap too.

CwtchyMama · 30/04/2010 18:50

We got hit by lightning last Summer & lost a load of electrical items including the phone line & pc.

I had to ring them from my mobile as the home phone wasnt working,it took me about 10 days just to get someone to acknowledge there was a problem with the phone line.

In the end DH went to the library & posted on the talk talk forum about the problems we were having with them, unbelievably someone answered & it took another week but we got it sorted & recieved compensation.

They were hopeless over the phone but better online.
