To look forward to New Year?

Not the party bit, which after years in hospitality I find hugely overrated.
But waking up on January 1st with a whole new year stretching ahead, endless opportunities and adventures.
I work with a generally good crowd who are motivated and focused, but even they seem to be dreading the gloom of new year. By comparison I cannot wait and I sense that my enthusiasm has not rubbed off on them Grin
So AIBU and I am in fact the only person who is excited to welcome 2019?!

It hasn't been a great year for us so yes I'm looking forward to the New Year. I have a new exciting job due to start in feb.

BitOutOfPractice · 30/12/2018 20:03

I know what you mean op and after a couple of crap years I'm strongly optimistic about what I can achieve in 2019.

Happy new year to you

ConfusedWife1234 · 30/12/2018 20:04

I am looking forward to 2019.

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 30/12/2018 20:05

Not just me then

Why are you coworkers so gloomy. Do they dread the Brexit?

Girlicorne · 30/12/2018 20:12

2018 can do one it has been horrific for us, I can't wait for 2019 and all it holds, so many exciting plans!! Love waking up on 1st to that blank page!!!

ConfusedWife1234 · 30/12/2018 20:15

But actually I do not get why people need a new year to wake up to a blank page. You can do that every morning if you want to. Know what I mean?

Ansumpasty · 30/12/2018 20:16

I’m with your coworkers- January is one long Monday to me.
Anything crap or worrying that I’ve been putting off ‘until after Christmas’ is there, waiting to bite me on the arse.

Think I will just freeze time this evening

BitOutOfPractice · 30/12/2018 20:19

I also cannot wait to start a new bullet journal. Sad I know

Billballbaggins · 30/12/2018 20:21

I like your enthusiasm for the new year! I find it all a little depressing, I always have even as a child? Not sure why!

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 30/12/2018 21:17

I think I am a sort of glass half full type of person at the best of times. New Year just seems to bring out my natural enthusiasm. Like confused I don't see the big deal with new year in terms of making the big changes, more that it's the natural end to one part of my life and the start of another.
Coworkers don't have any worries about Brexit, it's more the gloomy weather, skint ness and the lack of festive cheer I think.

But then of course one can change “lack of festive cheer“ by being more cheerful Smile.

ConfusedWife1234 · 01/01/2019 06:57

Happy 2019!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/01/2019 07:00

Happy 2019 indeed. I’m very excited. Always am on New Years day, a snowy blank canvas ahead to fill with exciting stuff.

GnomeDePlume · 01/01/2019 07:21

I like this time of year. Planting can start soon on the allotment. No DCs at school any more so no mad panic to find uniform/books/bags. The Christmas tree comes down today and all the decorations go back into the loft. Back to work after a 'free' holiday so hopefully my email inbox wont be full of messages.

Happy New Year!

mrbob · 01/01/2019 07:24

I get that New Year’s Day is just the same as any other day. But I feel the same- it always feels like a world of possibilities and a time to reassess. Yes you can do that any day but I feel like it is more of a line that is drawn.
I also feel that over the last few years each year has had a different sort of theme to it. I like that I can sort of predict and decide that today and make it happen (to some extent!)

PenguinPandas · 01/01/2019 07:41

I am super excited though no idea why. 😂 🎉🎉🎉🎆🎆🎆

ConfusedWife1234 · 01/01/2019 07:57

Me too. I slept like three hours this night, am awake before everybody else and feel super jittery and exited in a positive way.

ConfusedWife1234 · 01/01/2019 07:57

Most likely just lack of sleep (and still some alcohol in my system)... but hey...

Jiminybikkit · 01/01/2019 08:47

Same here. Used to hate January, still hate the weather, but I like the fresh and new feeling. 2018 was a good year for us, I hope that continues

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 01/01/2019 09:52

Unsurprisingly I am once again excited!
And mrbob a world of possibilities is exactly how I would describe it Grin
