to think Duchess Kate is worryingly thin?

Just saw pictures of the Royal Family coming out of Church at Christmas and was struck by how incredibly thin Kate is, especially around the waist and hips.

I'm sure I will be accused of just feeling jealous, but honestly I would be concerned if I saw an 18-y-o girl that skinny, let alone a woman in her 30s with three children. I can't imagine how severely you have to diet to be that thin so soon after giving birth. I know she is naturally slim but even so, I am worried the constant media attention is having a bad effect on her self-image/mental health.

KM is athletic with a long torso (like her sister & mother) having a neat waist would come easier to her then say Megan M or Angelina Jolie who would have less muscular legs.

MissusGrinch2018 Are you the same height too? If so then you will know that not many people are your weight and height in daily life particularly once you get older. I’ve said upthread & other threads I used to do modelling & generally can tell what thin in photos translates to in real life but there will be some discrepancies muscles, body type. Im far too “fat now at 5.91/2 & 10 stone but happy with my weight.

I posted up thread my height and weight and that I'd done modelling - I am thin. I do need to gain weight I've said that up thread. What I have said is that it's deceiving to be 3 stone overweight when meeting someone new. The same as saying you were 6 foot 5 when you're 5 foot 6 - its deceitful - that was my point.

WanderingTrolley1 · 30/12/2018 01:27

Yanbu.

She has become very thin.

AlbertWinestein · 30/12/2018 01:31

There is absolutely no doubt Kate works very hard for her figure. All power to her as, after 3 kids, she looks great. That said, I really hope it's something she enjoys as the pressure to remain that slim, for no other reason than to keep the media at bay, must be immense. Pippa doesn't have the same worries and she's definitely bigger now. And yes, I know she just had a baby, but you know what I mean.

katekat383 · 30/12/2018 01:31

Yep.

So you recognise that there isn’t loads of people with the same body type? Can’t be bothered to find your earlier posts but you said you were healthy so why do you need to gain weight.

Have no idea what this means, meeting someone new? I’m pretty sure thosould day recognise such a difference in weight & height.

SprusselBrout · 30/12/2018 01:33

The fact we see a size 12 as being slim says it all really

For goodness’ sakes.
A size 12 may not be slim on, for example, a 4’11 woman. On a 5’11 woman, however, it would be very slim.

I will never understand some people’s insistence on using (non-standardised) clothes sizes to gauge fatness. You might be overweight at X size, but someone half a foot taller than you probably won’t be.

canigetaliein · 30/12/2018 01:38

SprusselBrout it’s like everyone assumes everyone else is the same height as them, so weird!
I wear a 10-12 & i’m not fat, know some women who are 6ft & 12-14 & they are not fat either.

Personalisedstocking · 30/12/2018 01:40

My opinion - She is tiny; stick thin.
I'm not worried and can't think why anyone in the public should be.
She also looks gorgeous.

PyongyangKipperbang · 30/12/2018 01:51

Totally agree.

Due to my build and height I look skeletal when I am a 10. I am skin and bone. I look slim and (sorry Katherine!) "Kate-like" when I fit into a standard 12. I weighed 11 stone when I was a size 10, not even the doctor believed it when I was first weighed! Its all to do with natural body shape, height etc and nothing to do with what Top Shop says should fit you.

theLadyofShallnot · 30/12/2018 01:53

Is she slim? Yes she is. I admire her discipline. And like stocking I think she is a bonny lass.

I am the other end. I'm a fat hoofer and could be described as worryingly fat.

I bet that I would be thinner if I knew I was going to be photographed every day of my life. The fear of that would probably kick me right up the cow sized harris and provide me with all the discipline I needed. The discipline I quite clearly lack at the moment. But I am trying hard to do better because I know being this big isn't great.

It saddens me that she is under such scrutiny. I would hate it. I like my life in the shadows. Hell, I am the ruddy shadow!

PyongyangKipperbang · 30/12/2018 01:55

Also, I had (HAD) a friend who is 4' 11" and would take great delight in telling me she was a size 10 compared to my 14. Her height to weight/measurements ratio was higher than mine, but all she cared about was what her jeans label said compared to mine......

EdWinchester · 30/12/2018 02:08

I think she has a perfect figure. And she looks very fit and healthy and not ‘worryingly’ anything.

Jack65 · 30/12/2018 02:10

Shops have undoubtedly changed clothing sizes. 40 years ago i was a size 10 at 5ft 8in, weight was 8 and a half stone. However, sewing patterns use exactly the same measurements as 40 years ago. Now i am wearing size 16 clothes, but am a sewing pattern size 22. Women have become much, much larger. Nearly all my friends at school were size 8 to 12 (old dress size), and a size 16 then, they were called fat.
We are not used to seeing normal size people. In any case it is nobody's business whàt size another woman is.

Onecutefox · 30/12/2018 02:18

She does look very thin indeed. It must be her sister-in-law's fault.

SprusselBrout · 30/12/2018 02:22

It’s true that the average BMI has gone up, but it’s worth pointing out that people now are, on average, also taller than their forebears. I am tall, with broad shoulders and a wide pelvis, and when I was a MN-approved size my BMI was very, very low.

roundtable · 30/12/2018 02:32

I put on weight at uni. I thought most people did. Came off though.

She also has a long torso and looks like she works out. She's thin but not skinny imo.

IdaBWells · 30/12/2018 02:44

I agree that using dress sizes are pointless as there is so much vanity sizing these days. A size 10 when I was a young adult working in the 1980s is a 4 or 6 these days. I know as I still have the clothes and can measure them. A size 10 waist was tiny then but normal for many women to fit that size.

I like weight training and building muscle. Both my teenage girls are athletic, I never question them on their weight or clothes size. I always support them and encourage them to be fit and healthy.

There are fashions for body types, when I was young it was lean and slim. Now it's more strong and athletic. Of course big bums are fashionable now too!Xmas Grin

Onecutefox · 30/12/2018 02:47

A lot of the stuff that Kate is wearing doesn't really suit her that much.

Thishatisnotmine · 30/12/2018 03:16

She didn't gain much weight during her pregnancies so she wouldn't have needed to lose any weight after birgh.

But she's Kate so lets just judge away! I think her hair is too thick and glossy, shame on her!! Grin

ree348 · 30/12/2018 03:27

For someone who is also naturally slim I find comments like this really annoying.

She is naturally slim and has always been this way and most definitely looks healthy.

LittlePaintBox · 30/12/2018 03:49

She looks perfectly healthy to me. She may well regulate her food intake and exercise regularly, I guess that's a bit easier when you have 'staff', access to a private gym at home etc. But on the other hand, she's subject to scrutiny (like this) all the time, so I don't blame her.

Bottomplasters · 30/12/2018 04:26

I want to know why people are so convinced she smokes

PineapplePower · 30/12/2018 05:20

! I think her hair is too thick and glossy,

I know you’re joking ...but extensions. Seriously.
