To think you should get dressed to go shopping

Racmactac · 29/12/2018 15:13

Went into local town today and there were two women wandering around the shopping centre in their pyjamas and dressing gowns.

I mean really, it's not hard to throw a pair of jeans and a jumper on is it ?

I saw a group of tourists at London Bridge station a few weeks ago: Japanese, very stylish, immaculately dressed... One of them was wearing fluffy WHITE bedroom slippers with her outfit. They were bizzarely pristine considering the drizzly weather. The mind truly boggles!

TheLazyDuchess · 30/12/2018 14:54

It's not the norm but I wish it was, well fitting pj's are the comfiest clothes ever.

3WildOnes · 30/12/2018 14:54

It wouldn’t bother me but I’ve never seen anyone do it where I live. When I was at uni it was pretty common to see people wearing PJs around campus and in lectures.

3WildOnes · 30/12/2018 14:55

I quite often wear PJs around the house in the day. I don’t sleep in PJs.

Snugglepiggy · 30/12/2018 14:58

I work outdoors in a physical job.I will pop into the shops for the odd thing in work gear. But to go into town or a proper supermarket shop I go home first, shower and change into clean clothes and and a lick of lipstick.I think of my mum ,no old fuddy duddy but even in her nineties would smarten up in a nice coat and a squirt of perfume before going shopping.I'm not suggesting we go back to everyone wearing hats etc but PJs and dressing gown -no.

longwayoff · 30/12/2018 15:52

Caroldanvers, my dog also gets his first emptying of the day around 6. Yes, nightwear with dressing gown, rarely see anyone thank God. It's not a good look.

katekat383 · 30/12/2018 15:56

Oh good grief. How wrong is that attire on every level. These women have no self respect.

WTBE · 30/12/2018 16:49

I've never done it, takes two seconds to change into leggings/joggers.

But I don't understand when people say how disgusted/mortified/shocked they are when they see it. Or get personally offended. Overly dramatic, I suspect most people go "oh there's a lady In her unicorn pj's... Bit scruffy" and carry on with their day.

wigglybeezer · 30/12/2018 16:57

I read a story in my local paper last week, a woman appeared at the local magistrates court ( on drink driving charges), wearing pajamas and crocs, the judge wasn't impressed!

OftenHangry · 30/12/2018 17:02

@TheLazyDuchess I am with you on this😁

Palaver1 · 30/12/2018 17:40

Carol you walk the dog and then get back.into bed in the same wear ?

JacquesHammer · 30/12/2018 17:50

I really wish I’d run into some of the people on this thread when I was wearing Mr Men trousers Grin

For avoidance of doubt, I didn’t wear them to bed though!

olbndansmummy · 30/12/2018 17:52

There was a woman in our local mcdonalds the other week in her pj's and dressing gown with all her make up done and hair perfect. Her kids were also in pj's and it was 12 lunch time! Oh, and she had slippers on too!

PhilomenaNewYearButterfly · 30/12/2018 17:52

I wouldn't notice if people did that.

Clionba · 30/12/2018 17:57

Like pp above, I'm wondering about the dog walkers going back to bed in the same pjs!

Vivianebrezilletbrooks · 30/12/2018 17:58

It's a big no no to me. When I've seen anybody wearing that it's got a dirty look from me although to be fair in the case of the lady nipping into Asda to get something for her mum I guess you don't know the reasons but that's probably rare tbh that that would be the reason why they're in their pjs. It's more like they can't be arsed or seeking attention. This was a thing in the US with celebs doing it(Miley Cyrus et all) at one point I think so does that have anything to do with it in most cases, I wonder?

Schmoobarb · 30/12/2018 17:59

I don’t really get dressing gowns at all tbh, I’ve only ever worn one in hospital and it was quite a light one, I don’t see how those huge long bulky fluffy things are in any way comfortable

I like my fluffy dressing gown but it’s completely unflattering and makes me look like a barrel knotted in the middle. Not a chance in hell I’d let someone see me in that outiside!

GunpowderGelatine · 30/12/2018 17:59

I'm not having people saying that it's "body shaming" to call people out on scruffiness. YANBU

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 30/12/2018 18:01

I hate this too, I don't think people should be allowed in shops in their nightwear. Assuming too that if they have just got up they haven't showered either and so there is also a hygiene issue.

NotTheFordType · 30/12/2018 18:03

@CarolDanvers
My pj's are all jogging style bottoms

What the fuck. Is your fanjo not drowning in its own sweat by an hour past bedtime?

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 30/12/2018 18:05

It is just slovenly - no other word for it.

NotTheFordType · 30/12/2018 18:06

Yes, it's a self respect issue. If you're extremely poorly or have an emergency then fine.

Otherwise, can you really not find 30 seconds to put on some actual clothes? Would you go out to the shops wearing clothes with massive holes in them or huge smelly stains?

TheWiseWomansFear · 30/12/2018 18:08

Who gives a shit? Are they bothering you?

TroysMammy · 30/12/2018 18:09

I used to put a coat on over pj's when I used to pick my now xh from a night out with his mates but I never got out of the car and it was under the cover of darkness.

BunsyGirl · 30/12/2018 18:12

I went to the theatre on Boxing Day and someone was wearing a onesie Hmm
