Ok, quick google does indicate it’s a tad older than me, the 1790s 😂

HeronLanyon · 01/01/2019 21:39

3out I was completely wrong. Just wiki’d It. Apologies all. I grew up with it as staple in the USA. When I moved here still a child no one I knew knew it or ate it. I had always assumed it was an import to uk from us. Wrong. Very interesting and old history ! Still needs to be said fully ( I may find it hard to drop the American and)

HeronLanyon · 01/01/2019 21:40

My wiki search had it going back to the 1400s!!! Grin

3out · 01/01/2019 21:46

We’re just as daft as each other, haha!

Our neighbour thought it was called Ronni’s Cheese

HeronLanyon · 01/01/2019 21:48

Love it !

Ruffina · 01/01/2019 21:52

When you said “became a thing” I assumed you meant ‘was sold in trendy macaroni cheese-themed cafes’, like one I was taken to in New York a couple of years ago. In which case fair enough.

Now I know you were trying to claim macaroni cheese as American I’m outraged!

(Obviously I’m not outraged at all. But I do dislike the ‘and’.)

HeronLanyon · 01/01/2019 21:54

As if trump hasn’t caused enough shame I now have to shoulder mn outrage at quickly apologised for mistake. ShockGrin

3out · 01/01/2019 22:01

Trump looks like he’s used kraft cheesey pasta in his hair instead of dry shampoo

delboysskinandblister · 01/01/2019 22:01

making memories
prince/princess on board
self care
clean eating

and the DH, DC, DM acronyms. Just say husband, kids, mum

StealthPolarBear · 01/01/2019 22:17

WhyDontYouComeOnOver what do you mean?

StealthPolarBear · 01/01/2019 22:17

Me time

Vicky1990 · 01/01/2019 22:27

Guys. As in you guys. Horrible American term.
So. As in the start of every fucking sentence.
Peoples vote. As in another brexit vote, we have had it already.
Misogyny. As we never hear about misandric behavior.

Swishswish26 · 01/01/2019 22:40

Going ‘out out’. Argh, no you’re not, you’re just going out!

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 01/01/2019 22:46

Stealth - I mean you're an ableist twat for saying the phrase "safe space" should be banned.

It's a professional term for people who have mental health issues as well as other sensory conditions such as autism. Jog on.

Lomondstripe · 01/01/2019 23:13

@WhyDontYouComeOnOver they are hugely important - I think that’s why it dilutes that importance for the phrase to be used willy nilly. A bit like if everyone is ‘gluten intolerant’ then it all gets a bit lax, only truly affecting those that needed the accommodations in the first place?

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 01/01/2019 23:15

I agree Lomond. Triggered could also be in that category as well as anxiety.

KenDoddsDadsDogIsDead · 01/01/2019 23:21

My bad.

diamondofdoom · 01/01/2019 23:23

When my DP says 'can I put the football on?' Wink

I hate 'on fleek' and 'weird flex but okay' Hmm

StealthPolarBear · 02/01/2019 06:40

Yes that's what I mean lomond. If the phrase has specific meaning in mental health that's where it should stay. But all of a sudden everyone has a safe space, or everyone is offering their home as a safe space. WhyDontYouComeOnOver, it sounds like you actually agree, and I don't appreciate being called a twat.

Another two - decompress and blow off steam.

MitziK · 02/01/2019 06:59

'I wanna spit bars over the beats' (meaning 'I would like to rap, using as many misogynistic, violent and 'N' words as I possibly can over a shit quality drum loop ripped off the internet').

'That's bare jokes, fam' (meaning 'That's amusing, my family member/friend'). Gradually being consigned to history since I started saying such things back to them in my considerably less urban accent

'Let's demonstrate a Positive Mind Set here' (meaning 'I'm the boss, I know this is the shittiest idea/situation in the history of shitty ideas and situations, but if you do anything less than shower me with praise and adulation for making you go along with this shitty idea/situation, I will make your life a living fucking Hell and blame you for not being enthusiastic about it in the first place when it all inevitably goes mammaries uppermost')

'I'm sorry that you feel that way' (meaning 'I don't give a rat's arse about what I've done and have fuck all intention of changing my behaviour, but I'm trying to make you think that I do to get you off my case').

bellissimiaow · 02/01/2019 07:32

Not gonna lie..
I know, right? (IKR)
Wait what..?

Kids say these ALL THE time and it makes me itch.

Colabottles64 · 02/01/2019 07:54

Hashtags I want to throw in the bin

#blessed
#ootd

Words/phrases:

“The feels” as in “that really got me in the feels”
“Clean” eating (ugh)

NameChangeNugget · 02/01/2019 08:04

Anyone who says “can I get” rather than “can I have”

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 02/01/2019 08:18

If that's what you meant, Stealth, then I apologise profusely.

StealthPolarBear · 02/01/2019 08:22

Thank you, that is appreciated.
I think it's linked to the overuse of medical/clinical terms in general. I get irritated when I hear people describing themselves as a bit ocd as they have to straighten a picture. That was about a decade ago I think. The modern ones are that everyone's house or every other forum is a safe space.
