Sorry I know it’s not really Aibu but I’m looking to buy a Fitbit. Either a cheap copy off amazon if I can find one with good reviews. The Fitbit 2 is on sale for £80 or Fitbit 3 for £130. Money is a bit of an issue but I’ll pay for quality. Has anybody got any recommendations or experience of any? Thanks

I have an Alta HR, which I really like. I've been using it for a year now. I'd recommend it. I don't know what the 2 and 3 are though, sorry.

Imustbemad00 · 28/12/2018 19:50

Sorry it’s the charge 2 or charge 3. Think it’s got the bigger screen than the Alta although o haven’t really looked at the Alta.

I've got a Charge 2 ... love it !
I had an Alta first but I prefer my charge x

Yes, yabu. But since you asked, every fitbit I have ever owned (three of them) has stopped working after two years. It's a problem other people I know with them have had too. I wouldn't get another, though they may be better now.

winsinbin · 28/12/2018 19:56

I had a charge 2 and recently upgraded to a Charge 3. The Charge 3 is a tiny bit smaller but it’s such a small difference I barely notice it. The battery life is much the same too. The only difference is that the Charge 3 is waterproof which might be useful to you if you swim/wash up/bath babies a lot but otherwise I don’t think it’s worth the extra money.

I can recommend a letscom, does pretty much everything a fitbit does and for a fraction of the price. Smile

My charge 2 stopped after 18 months. But I love them so have charge 3 now. I got a charge 2 by buying the pebble and then the strap individually. Worked out a lot cheaper buying it all individually

I gave up on fitbits, had a Surge - bracelet broke (did get replaced under warranty), then it wouldn't sync. Got an Alta HR - had frequent syncing issues with it - and the bracelet broke (again fixed under warranty) but you can't see the screen in bright light. I've got an Apple Watch - more expensive but it works! I wouldn't buy another Fitbit.

My account got hacked and because it was linked to my phone it was linked to a LOT of personal information.

Fitbit were next to useless in sorting it out. I mean utterly shit. I asked them to close the account repeatedly but they refused.

It also took three attempts to get them to respond to my GDPR so I could figure out who else might have had access to my info. They fobbed me off and probably hoped ignoring me would work (it didn’t)

KeepServingTheFestiveSnogs · 28/12/2018 20:02

I had an Up band, which broke twice. Turned out to be a known problem, and they were only helpful the first time. So I wouldn't recommend those at all.

RhiWrites · 28/12/2018 20:05

I have the charge2 and it changed my life. I’d recommend it for sure.

Whocansay · 28/12/2018 20:23

I have a charge 2 and love it. A friend has a Garmin. They are bulkier, but give your more stats if you are into running, etc. He loves that. Neither of us would change! It depends what you want to use it for. They all do slightly different things. Read up on a few and see what you think would suit.

I would definitely research, like I linked above there are other options. I think sometimes people go for fitbit as they recognise the name, which is fine, but it doesn't need to be a fitbit especially if funds are tight. Smile

Imustbemad00 · 28/12/2018 21:45

Yes had a look at the link. Will definitely look around. Looked at some Fitbit reviews on Amazon and they are not the best...

Love my charge 2.

Neverunderfed · 28/12/2018 21:57

Quite a few people I know have Versas, which are kind of smart watch varieties. They speak very highly of them.

AnotherCasserole · 28/12/2018 21:59

Fitbit is great for steps and using the app to log food but the software (I’ve had a Flex 2 and now an Ionic) tends to have a wobble once every couple of months. If you’re a runner/cyclist I’d consider a Garmin instead (also the GPS on a Garmin more accurate if you’re keeping an eye on running pace)

Imustbemad00 · 28/12/2018 22:11

I mainly want to track steps, occasional gym activity, calories burned ect to work out how many calories to eat and how much activity I’m doing. Also like smartphone notifications.
