So this year, it had to be a fire blanket and car tyre valves from the in(outlaws !)😄

I once got a bag of pasta. They were penis shaped though.

The worst was a toss up between purple satin lingerie ... 4 sizes too big from my aunt and uncle (!), velvet purple trouser / skort (remember that brief time in the 90s these were fashionable? The trousers with a skirt/short attached?), and half a portable cooker (you couldn’t buy the parts separately so utterly pointless!). I actually do like the colour purple but those items were horrendous. I also find a use for most things or pass them on to people who will enjoy them, at least someone was kind enough to think of me. My uncle is just a psychopath, that’s another story.

An ugly grey elephant christmas tree decoration from MIL.

She thinks she gives us an ornament every year, but has actually only done it for about 3-4 years. Think she is confusing us with someone else. We just smile & nod.

mumofblueeyes · 28/12/2018 22:21

A 5 foot inflatable fish with a bottle of helium.

MrsWillGardner · 28/12/2018 22:41

Roll on deodorant, box of tissues and a bauble thingy with silky knickers in.

From my Nan.

When I was 16.

Guineapiglet345 · 28/12/2018 22:48

My daughter got 8 pairs of socks with “born in 2018” printed on them, she wasn’t.

bevelino · 28/12/2018 22:50

A free book that had been taped to a magazine.

MaybeMaybeNotJ · 28/12/2018 23:28

A coin purse key ring from my Grandma

Standard Grandma gift

Giggorata · 28/12/2018 23:34

MrsPinkCock · 28/12/2018 23:45

A bag of wood kindling for a log fire from DH.

We don’t have a log fire.

HappyBumbleBee · 28/12/2018 23:54

Hubby received an ashtray in the shadow of a coffin once - and he didn't even smoke
🤣🤣🤣
I got a draft excluder one year!

StrongerThanIThought76 · 28/12/2018 23:55

My step mum bought me a ginormous bag of premium dishwasher tablets.

It's random but has become a bit of a family tradition. I've not bought dishwasher tablets myself for ages

amy85 · 29/12/2018 00:21

My secret Santa at work got me a winter hat with a fluffy pom pom on it from Tesco...they put it in a wine gift bag with tissue paper...just kinda random

NotTheMrMenAgain · 29/12/2018 00:44

Years ago now, but DB once gave me a digeridoo - no idea why and he couldn't explain it either!

Fluffyears · 29/12/2018 00:59

Dusting gloves, I wet dust and house isn’t dusty.

Fold up shopping bag.

Cheap manicure kit.

Battery clothes Bobble remover

Flawless shaver and light up mirror that the light won’t turn off on.

Reallynsdty cheap make up.

A book of ‘Prosecco wisdom’

All from my mother 🙄 not one thing I need or want and would rather she didn’t bother to be honest.

She buys me a hairbtemiver every year, I don’t need them or want them for Christmas, now have 4 cluttering up drawers. I epilate any hair 3 times a week so it’s not as if I am ever actually seen with facial hair! She seems to think I need them, my DH, magnifying mirror and me beg to differ!

WhatOnEarthDoIDoNow · 29/12/2018 01:03

@NotTheMrMenAgain I'd love a didgeridoo Grin my housemate plays the euphonium so I'd like to repay the practice in kind.

cavycavy · 29/12/2018 08:21

@MrsDoubtfire2018

Yes Old spice.

I can’t remember fully if it was tuna to be honest but it was definitely some form of tinned food.

thegreylady · 29/12/2018 08:25

A laundry pouch! It is a bag with lots of smaller bags/ pouches inside it. It says Laundry Pouch on the front.
We have a wash basket and a washing machine...where does pouch fit in?

santabelly · 29/12/2018 08:43

Strong alcoholic chocolates from my parents. Most likely a regift. My dh doesn’t drink and I hate alcohol in chocolate

PawneeParksDept · 29/12/2018 13:04

Gosh some of these horrors make me positively grateful for mine!

My worst this year was two blatantly regifted items from my sister that she didn't want and were not things that I would want, one will go to charity and the other Ebay

Last year it was an accessory from a good brand but something unusual about it led me to Google and I discovered it was for children, specifically boys, and I knew who she had bought it for originally and ended up unable to give it to, and it went from being a good gift to a smack in the face.

It's such a double standard as I buy her things she acknowledges as thoughtful but would raise all hell if :

I complained about her gifts

Did to her what she does to me

Only the fact that I secretly have the upper hand because I've psychologically detached from caring and I expect it keeps me sane

WhatASmashingBlouse · 29/12/2018 13:18

I got some anti freeze, Estée Lauder Youth Dew (the actual smell of old ladies) and a half used bottle of dove body wash from my Grandad one year. I think he was clearing out his spare room after my Nan died.

zebrarobot · 29/12/2018 13:23

A Take a Break magazine. In a gift bag.

TheDHand · 29/12/2018 14:28

A slug trap.

We have not complained of, and do not have, a surfeit of slugs in the garden.

abbsisspartacus · 29/12/2018 17:17

Just remembered ex mil with good intentions gave me an elephant ornament (I like them) I looked at it saying they looked like happy elephants is she sitting on his lap? Fil said umm looks like they are oh my! Yup she bought me elephants that look like they are shagging 😂😂 I still liked them though

seastargirl · 29/12/2018 17:30

@theuselessgiraffe boots had the little China measuring cups

I got some of the food caddy bags which my in laws would have got free from the library. I was running out, so they were actually quite useful and were more of a stocking filler than an actual gift!
