Effing coats

DSDs arrived yday for a week.

We bought them (nice) coats that they chose (cost about £40 each) in September.

Since then they have been coming with no coats which is irritating esp as DH tends to helicopter parent and makes a big palava about them “being cold” (which IMHO is part of the issue here). They are 12 and 14.

They were told in person and via text to bring their coats this week.

They did not. We went out this evening to an outdoor event and DH lent them my coats which I was not happy about and told them so.

DH was then in their room hunting for gloves, scarfs and jumpers etc. I asked him what he wa doing he said “getting them ready” I said “DH part of the problem here is you are instilling no sense of responsibility in these TEENAGE girls at all which is why they always forget to bring what they need.

He is slagging off their mother to me saying it’s her responsibility - it is not - they are old enough to pack their own bloody bags - they have been coming here for 10 years now.

ARGH AIBU?

It might be a good idea to keep some coat gloves and scarfs at your house so you don't keep running into this? Especially if they've been coming over for all these years

We do!! But because we bought them their winter coats (normally their mother would) there was an expectation that they would be brought with them when they visit.

Do teenagers actually wear coats? Mine never did, and it seems to me they're old enough to put up with being cold if they don't bring them.

nuttyknitter

Totally agree.

DH seems to think if it rains they will melt 🙄

I remember going through this phase as a teen, I hated wearing a coat! I think it’s partly a strange teenage thing?

grumpypug · 27/12/2018 20:46

My 15 year old never wears a coat! He will wear a hoody / jacket if I nag him enough.

I know my teens were the same.

I wish he’d just chill out about it.
