To think moulton brown is waay over rated?

Got some presents of Moulton Brown toiletries as usual from my sister - in spite of my hinting to get something else. Of course it is meant well, so I thanked her. But I don't get the love for this brand. I used the seagrass shower gel today. It is fine, but the smell is a bit meh. Really nothing special.

Aesop is better.

Floralnomad · 27/12/2018 16:24

I got loads of MB and L’Occitane for Christmas , all in the fragrances I love and I’m jolly happy with it . Can’t stand Lush stuff , most of it I seem to be allergic to and the bath bombs are so slimy and greasy that they even make the bags you put them in slimy .

Notso · 27/12/2018 16:39

For someone who likes the IMO sickly, melted ice lolly smell of strawberry shower gel Molton Brown is probably a poor choice. The scents all seem quite heavy.
I had some beautiful soap and shower gel from there a few years ago, the fragrance lasted ages I used to get loads of compliments on it. I don't think they make it any more though.
You can always donate it or re-gift it though.

CharminglyGawky · 27/12/2018 16:45

I love molton brown stuff. Would be very happy with some at Christmas. Don't much like Baylis and Harding and l'occitane whilst very nice I don't like the scents as much. Crabtree and Evelyn do a lovely lemony scent as well.

My preference is for floris though which apparently my family know as I got just about everything they make in my favourite scent. I'm pretty chuffed with it all, I'd never pay for it myself :)

I also got a random set that I think may have been regifted, many, many times! The paper box felt soft, the way old paper can and when I opened it to smell it it didn't actually smell of anything, seriously it smelt more like the gloop those weird toy alien in an egg thingies come in.... I broke the cycle and binned it!

Ghanagirl · 27/12/2018 16:48

@abacucat
You could say the same for most branded products.
If you like and can afford to buy it do so if not don’t it’s really that simple!

Zaratallzara · 27/12/2018 16:52

You can all send your Molton Brown stuff my way, I really like it.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 27/12/2018 16:53

Their eucalyptus shower gel is my absolute favourite shower gel of all time from any company! Think it’s lovely quality stuff and occasionally treat myself to a bottle.

I recently treated myself to a bottle of Jo Malone shower gel in the scent of my favourite perfume of there’s and was so disappointed! Scent didn’t last and felt odd on my skin!

I’ve absolutely no problem with high end shower gel, none at all and I do think Milton brown is worth the money, but it’s not necessarily better as jo Malone showed me!

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 27/12/2018 16:55

We use L'Occitane everyday. It is a small luxury that makes life just a bit nicer. I buy DH the men's shower gel and the bars of soap for the shower. I always have a bar of soap by the bathroom sink (although to the truthful I have hidden it and replaced it with Aldi liquid soap as dd is going through a massive slime phase)

I do like Molton Brown, though there is one scent that was horrible, can't remember now but it was musty.

I also love Aesop!

I have never had Bayliss and Harding.

This year dd received some Soap & Glory sets and she loves LUSH. I don't like either of them, but I am not 12.....

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 27/12/2018 16:56

I like a couple of the MB scents. I only use the hand wash though and sometimes the hand cream, though there are others I prefer.

L’occitane I wouldn’t put in the same bracket at all. I don’t buy it for myself but I am super happy if it turns up as a gift.

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 27/12/2018 16:57

I also love the Jo Malone bars of soap and sometimes treat myself to one.

But the best soap ever is Santa Maria Novella - incredible! Ditto to their cologne

wiltingflower · 27/12/2018 16:57

YANBU.

Having said that, everyone assigns their own personal value to a brand so where person A may think brand Y is fab, person B may think brand X is way better.

Shitmewithyourrhythmstick · 27/12/2018 16:58

Musty is right. The scent conjures up images of a Victorian dowager's armpit.

Jeanclaudejackety · 27/12/2018 16:59

I prefer earthier smells, strawberry shower gell is like something I'd buy my 8yo nieces

UserMe18 · 27/12/2018 16:59

I don't understand the price, it seems fine I don't particularly dislike it, but I don't understand why it is the price it is- genuinely don't think I could tell it apart from supermarket brands? I like Lush for things like shower gel etc.

IrishMamaMia · 27/12/2018 17:00

It's nicely scented and I really liked it initially when I discovered the brand. However I have sensitive skin and it really triggers my excema. Just use it in hotels when they have it and sparingly.
I now like Aveeno, Neals Yard and This Works for Bath treats.

Jeanclaudejackety · 27/12/2018 17:03

Elemis shower stuff and £3 olive oil soap for me

Julianaa · 27/12/2018 17:03

I like Molton Brown handcream which is really saying something as I hate all handcreams. Molton Brown is so light and nongreasy that it's instantly absorbed. I also like the delicate fragrances.

Molton Brown shower gels are nice but other brands are equally good.

I also like the classic body moisturiser (can't remember the name), the creamy coloured one. Again, it's light and nongreasy and absorbs quickly and moisturises really effectively.

The handwashs are nice too, delicate fragrances and don't dry out the skin. But very expensive.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 27/12/2018 17:08

Wish I had got some MB. I love Gingerlily and the rhubarb one.

Shoxfordian · 27/12/2018 17:09

I love the Molton Brown Rosa Absolute shower gel, lasts ages and smells amazing

Parker231 · 27/12/2018 17:14

I love MB shower gels - always very pleased to be given some. DD gave me a selection this Christmas - looking forward to deciding which order to use them. They’re not for sharing!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 27/12/2018 17:16

IMHO it should be nicer than it is for the price, and the smell doesn't last. I had a candle once, that I bought myself from the shop, so not old, called Imp's Whisper. This particular imp was whispering so quietly I couldn't smell it.

Aaaahfuck · 27/12/2018 17:18

Tk maxx do way better hand soaps and shower gels in my opinion. I've not heard of the brands they have there so no idea if they were ever as expensive as they claim. But we've had some amazing smelling long lasting toiletries from there. Where as I've had molten brown and felt very meh!

JumpingJunipersBatman · 27/12/2018 17:18

YANBU. The ingredients are the same as much, much cheaper brands.

SarfE4sticated · 27/12/2018 17:20

I also love L'Occitane, especially the Lemon Verbena shower gel. It is really expensive though.

HelenaDove · 27/12/2018 17:23

I currently have the Bayliss and Harding Christmas hand wash (midnight fig and pomegranate) on my bathroom sink. Been using it since last Saturday and the scent is long lasting. I bought the Bayliss and Harding midnight fig and pomegranate stack for my mum as one of her Christmas presents. She may need to go into hospital soon and will need mini products to take in with her.

Way back in 2002 i won a Molton Brown shampoo in a raffle. It was yellow in colour but i cant remember the scent. It was quite concentrated though and lasted ages.
