To think moulton brown is waay over rated?

Got some presents of Moulton Brown toiletries as usual from my sister - in spite of my hinting to get something else. Of course it is meant well, so I thanked her. But I don't get the love for this brand. I used the seagrass shower gel today. It is fine, but the smell is a bit meh. Really nothing special.

Absolutely love the Eucalyptus one so would buy that but don't particularly like the other scents. Prefer L'occitane.

Are you sure you're actually getting Molton Brown, OP? If it says 'Moulton Brown' on the packaging then you may have fake stuff. This could be why it isn't nice?

It's wayyyy better than Bayliss and Harding.

abacucat · 27/12/2018 15:40

Bobbin She buys it from John Lewis online and is delivered to me, so I think it is the real thing.

It gave my DD raging thrush, worse than a Lush bath bomb.

abacucat · 27/12/2018 15:40

And my it is just my spelling.

Yes the MB lip salve made my lips go red and cracked, and I never usually react to anything.

'The only thing you should add to a bath is yourself' according to a gynaecologist I once spoke to.

flissfloss65 · 27/12/2018 15:42

Love Molton Brown black peppercorn.

Was going to buy the Bayliss version but it smelt much harsher. MB peppercorn smell lasts ages after a shower.

FrankIncensed · 27/12/2018 15:43

I do agree it costs a lot for what it is but then it's all down to personal preference isn't it. I love a lot of the Molton Brown stuff, but some of it is a bit strong for me. Body Shop strawberry shower gel is so sickly sweet smelling it gives me a headache but I love love their argan oil range.

Holidayshopping · 27/12/2018 15:43

I don’t actually think they smell very nice. For that money, they should smell lovely!

Leeds2 · 27/12/2018 15:44

I have a Christmassy Molton Brown hand soap dispenser, which is lovely.

Also bought a pump action MB glitter dispenser, which is very disappointing.

FatGirlWithChocolate · 27/12/2018 15:44

L'occitane is ok, but really for what it is ridiculously pricey. I can't justify spending so much on it, but perhaps I'm tight.

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 27/12/2018 15:44

I got some Jasmine & Sun Rose Molton Brown shower gel but it smells like stale piss Sad

Lazybonita · 27/12/2018 15:45

Well someone gave me a set and I didn’t like it so we used it on the dog...now I whenever I smell it I think dog shampoo. I’m not big into smellies but if people ask I either say Jo Malone, Loccitane or Lush depending on budget. I do love a bath bomb.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 27/12/2018 15:49

There's no real sense in super pricey hand wash, but the Molton Brown shampoos and conditioners are really nice and the body lotions too. I guess if I find something I'm not allergic to I will like it!

abacucat · 27/12/2018 15:49

Any MB shower gel I have had, the smell very quickly fades.

I’d love to get Molton Brown, I seem to keep getting Bayliss

Yeah I would prefer MB to Bayliss. Whenever I see shelves of the stuff in TK MAxx I think some poor sods going to get it for Christmas"!

FairNotFair · 27/12/2018 15:51

My lovely PiL gave me loads of MB stuff yet again this Christmas. I really don't like the scents - far too strong and kind of synthetic - but I find myself gushing in appreciation, because they are so kind. And so another year goes by …

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 27/12/2018 15:53

I like it very much, and think most of the of scents are really nice. But it's obviously still overpriced.

Bayliss & Harding did a good job of copying some of the scents, but the texture of B&H is really odd - gloopy and doesn't actually lather properly.

luckylavender · 27/12/2018 15:53

I love Molton Brown, always feel the love when I come back to it. Both Bayliss and Harding and Bodyshop do terrible things to my skin - hives rashes etc. I find that the MB scent lasts well and you don't need to use so much of it.

SomethingAboutNothing · 27/12/2018 15:55

YANBU, I don't get the Molton Brown hype at all. I do love l'occitane though, the Amande range especially.

Wiifitmama · 27/12/2018 15:55

I was given some ridiculously expensive cowshed set called Knackered Cow which I found very funny but the products themselves seemed incredibly dull and not worth it. Now L’Occitane on the other hand I love and would be thrilled if people bought it for me!

notsmartenough · 27/12/2018 16:01

I like Molton Brown shower gel because the fragrance is long lasting. I am using Bayliss and Harding at the moment and I can hardly smell it.
My favourite MB fragrance was the ginseng but they changed it and it's not as good now. Rhubarb and rose is lovely as is the violet.
For handwash though I buy the cheaper versions unless I get vouchers for my birthday.

Aneira11 · 27/12/2018 16:01

I love Molton Brown and bought the shower gel baubles as part of Christmas present for DH’s PA. Sorry Tracey if you’re one of the mumsnetters complaining about it ☹️

eggsandwich · 27/12/2018 16:03

I love molton brown, I always have a bottle of eucalyptus shower gel in the bathroom for when anyone in the house has a cold.
