To want to know who is leaving anonymous gifts on my doorstep?

When I went to go out this morning there was a box of chocolates on my doorstep.
When I got home this afternoon there was another box, plus a card, which said inside "merry Christmas love Santa."
AIBU to be a bit freaked out by this? I live in a large block of flats (over 50 flats) so it must be someone in my building.
For full disclosure, this happened a couple of Christmases ago but hasn't happened at all for the last two years.

Most likely someone’s got the wrong flat and they aren’t meant for you.

Silkei · 26/12/2018 15:43

Hope you didn’t eat them. God knows what was in them!

Subtlecheese · 26/12/2018 15:47

I leave gifts for my friends from santa, but they usually suspect (like a knitted scarf one asked me to make that I thought i'd not get time to do).
I also don't do gifts every year. But it wasn't me as the only chocolates left this year were not at a flat.

IsambardKingdomBrunel · 26/12/2018 15:48

They're sealed boxes, although I'm still a bit dubious about eating them silkei.

Maybe you're right seren. What a shame, if they'd just knocked on the door the first time, they'd have known they'd got the wrong door and I might have been able to help them find the right recipient. Sad

It's a lot better than the gifts I get on my doorstep.

Usually dead mice and birds...

redyawn · 26/12/2018 15:58

What fun! I wish somebody would leave chocolates on my step. I would eat them.

primoestate · 26/12/2018 16:01

We do this in our community. And pass a gift on anonymously to the next person, of your choice.

Ringdonna · 26/12/2018 16:05

Years ago as a kid we had a woman who would do this in our village for less well off families. Local press dubbed her ‘ Mother Christmas’.

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 26/12/2018 16:12

oooh I wish someone would leave me some chocs on my doorstep, I've eaten all mine & nearly finished the champagne. Anyone feel up to a mercy delivery to somewhere in the southeast? I need cheese, more cheese, sparkling wine/champagne, chocolate, more chocolate and more mince pies and cream Grin

Notasunnybunny · 26/12/2018 16:15

Might be someone in the block who doesn’t have lots of people they can buy gifts for but they like to spread christmas cheer but do it anonymously to avoid the recipient feeling like they ought to reciprocate - this would be something I would do

checkingforballoons · 26/12/2018 16:17

Just neighbours being nice?

IsambardKingdomBrunel · 26/12/2018 16:20

I'm sure it is someone just trying to be friendly/neighbourly. I just wish they'd either knocked on the door or signed their name in the card so I could say thank you!
I do understand they might not want to/feel awkward though.
When it happened two years ago, I thought I knew who it might be, but that person is away for Christmas this year, so it can't be them.
I feel like a shit detective!

Don't you believe in Father Christmas?

StrawberrySquash · 26/12/2018 16:25

Put a thank you note up on your door, saying you'd love to thank them in person?

IsambardKingdomBrunel · 26/12/2018 16:28

That's what my sister said QueenDoris Grin
I have one of those signs outside that says "Santa, please stop here" and she says, he might be running a bit late, but he's made up for it by stopping twice!

kateandme · 26/12/2018 16:29

after the recent poisoning by a simple touch of a doorframe or picking up a perfume bottle I wouldn't be able to touch them

IsambardKingdomBrunel · 26/12/2018 16:29

That's a really good idea StrawberrySquash. I will do that.

Have any neighbours been in prison for the last 2 winters?

GodrestyemerrySchadenfreud · 26/12/2018 16:34

Usually dead mice and birds...

Here - them's nutritious, them is!

Took me ages . . ..

This reminds me... I once got a massive box for Valentines. I was on the phone to my partner, and went 'Oh, thank you for another gift' when the postman came (I already got a gift from him), and he said he had not bought me another gift. It was a ginormous box with lots of different cute things, chocolate, sweets, matching mugs, and a note signed Love + a name I didn't recognise. I was seriously freaked out who knew my address and who the hell it was. Turned out after I rang the gift company my partner ordered from as well that they got the address wrong and some poor Laila or Julie never got their Valentines gift, while I got two.

Hope you will find out your truly secret Santa!

someone left a bottle of wine on my door step about a month ago, and a week ago someone left flowers, no idea who it was
