AIBU? Sad pudding.

Mum made a lovely Christmas pudding. Offered to serve it with cream or custard. Except my lovely pudding was not sitting in a fridge cold puddle of double cream. She used Elmlea.

I had to eat the Christmas pudding and leave all the 'cream' as I didn't want to complain about a meal that was made for me. But really! A greasy cream subsitute on a lovingly made Christmas pudding! Would everyone else felt as sad about it?

Tinned steralised cream, I adored it (born in 1964 so very clear 1970s memories).

Did you forget to put "lightheaded"?
Let's hope so fgs

This is about cream, not brandy.

Elmlea did need to be kept in the fridge. And the life of double cream is far beyond the use by date.

I did used to like the adverts though, that cats can't tell the difference. We need a cat tester!

Cats don’t give a fuck. My cat loses her shit over oat milk.

I agree with pp, double cream lasts way beyond the use by date. I can tell if milk is going to turn within a day or so which makes me chief taster of the cream. We’ve had some weeks out of date that’s perfectly fine.

I don’t think I’ve ever tried elmlea, should I experiment? I feel left out 😂

Just for interest. One screen shot is the ingredients and nutritional information for Elmlea, the other is double cream.

Yak! Elmlea is foul

maddiemookins16mum

My Granny used to make stewed apples with a dollup of sterilsed cream and a handful of cornflakes on top.

In the 1970's, I thought it was the food of the Gods!

But, yes, OP, I'd have been secretly gutted at Elmlea on a lovely Christmas pud Sad

maddiemookins I do remember tinned cream! (although now starting to think I shouldn't have been so surprised about the Elmlea...) We had it in the week with tinned syrup sponge. I wonder if it would be a happy taste memory now, or be more like trying a Findus Crispy pancake again?
