To think that this was odd?

So this morning dp and I woke up at about 6.45. Stayed quiet in bed until mid would wake up. I answered a couple of what's app messages, and said kids were still asleep.

At about 7 heard someone knocking the front door. Knocking woke the kids. It was mil, who had seen my message and assumed we were up so drove straight to our house.

Now, I'd said we'd call her when we were up, so think she assumed we were drinking santa without her.

Who else was woken by mil knocking on door this am?????

Keen MIL! Next year give her a time to turn up!

AllSuits · 25/12/2018 21:53

Oh bless, she was keen!

Ffsnosexallowed · 25/12/2018 21:54

Giving her a time doesn't work. She worries that she'll miss the present opening. That's why we said we'd call her - she only lives 5 mins away.

HollowTalk · 25/12/2018 21:54

That's a ridiculous time to turn up!

HollowTalk · 25/12/2018 21:55

And when she saw there were no lights on downstairs, why didn't she go away again? Or at least send you a message?

Ffsnosexallowed · 25/12/2018 21:56

Last year she had the decency to sit in her car in the cold for about an hour until she saw the downstairs light come on....

Oh fucking hell, this is what worries me about MIL being so close to us🙈
There's enthusiasm and there's THAT!!!

DanielRicciardosSmile · 25/12/2018 21:58

Drinking Santa?

Ffsnosexallowed · 25/12/2018 21:59

"doing santa! “ not drinking!

Ah I thunk it's lovely that she's so excited to see the kids opening their presents on Christmas morning. So many threads about PILs who give no shits about their GC. I wish my MIL was like this.

ThePinkOcelot · 25/12/2018 22:00

She sat in her car for about an hour in the cold last year?! Ahhhh bless her!

Returnofthesmileybar · 25/12/2018 22:00

Why is she even there for Santa presents?

SoyDora · 25/12/2018 22:02

My mum did this too! She was on the doorstep before we’d even made it downstairs.

Ffsnosexallowed · 25/12/2018 22:03

Returnofthesmileybar - because she wants to be there?? I'd quite like a Christmas morning with just me and dp, but she's on her own and I wouldn't know how to ask her not to come. She's done it every year.

Tattletale · 25/12/2018 22:03

I agree she was way too early turning up but at least she cares.

iamthewalrusgoogoogjoob · 25/12/2018 22:12

Ah bless her. I couldn't be mad at this. I'd probably just tell her to stay over the night before.

Maelstrop · 25/12/2018 22:17

Don't have a Whatsapp group with her? Or definitely don't message anything about being awake. Tell her next year you want to do it alone or do what my family did, do present opening from her the night before.

BuildingQuote · 25/12/2018 22:17

Do you have a spare room? I definitely would want to invite her to stay the night before given she’s so keen to be close but I appreciate I don’t know her.
I appreciate everyone has a different dynamic but for us it is part of the excitement of Christmas having different generations together and our DC simply love that .
I am sorry you had such an early visit though as when unexpected that would definitely be a bit tricky!

Warpdrive · 25/12/2018 22:22

I think that’s so lovely that she wants to be part of the magic!

Alpacanorange · 25/12/2018 22:39

Go away next year.

BottleOfJameson · 25/12/2018 22:40

Yes it's odd but quite sweet she was so keen! Could she stay over next year (yes a it unnecessary since she's so close)?

BottleOfJameson · 25/12/2018 22:41

I actually feel a bit jealous - my mum would never bother to come up and spend Christmas with us. She was much more excited about giving the dog his Christmas present than seeing DC get theirs!

Itssosunnyout · 25/12/2018 22:46

Thats far too early. I understand she us your mum but that doesn't give her the right to turn up at a ridiculous time

Some pps are saying she's keen and to allow it but I wouldn't encourage this behaviour.

I don't understand why unreasonable behaviour is accepted on Christmas but people would React differently if it was a birthday, first day of school, nursery etc

chachaboom · 25/12/2018 22:46

Shit, I'll never complain about my MIL again. This would've sent me over the edge. Stayed in her car outside for an hour 😮

SoyDora · 26/12/2018 08:28

No point telling mine to stay over the night before, she lives 500 yards away! I text her to say the DC were awake and opening their stockings in our bed, and she left straight away so was here in 3 mins!
