To ask for urine infection tips?

So... it’s Christmas Day. Doctors have been shut all day. Along with pharmacies.
Noticed first thing this morning that my wee smelt foul (sorry for tmi).
Though maybe something I’d eaten.

As the day has gone on its got worse.
My whole urethra area is aching. I feel sick and hot and cold. It doesn’t really hurt when I wee, except for the last bit I push out.
Just generally feeling crappy.
I’m home alone with 2 sleeping kids. No one can come and babysit as everyone’s been drinking, with it being Christmas Day.
I don’t feel horrific enough to need to wake 2 toddlers to take them to out of hours god knows where with me. Probably the local hospital 10 miles away.
What can I do tonight to make it feel better?
Drank 3 pints of very weak squash, and all it’s done is make me wee more.
Done paracetamol.
Done warm bath with no bubbles.
Any tips?
Also can I get stuff over the counter? Pharmacy may be open tomorrow?
Only ever had 1 urine infection years ago so not sure if I need an actual doctor or not?

Cranberry juice
Cranberries
Pumpkin seeds

Forget what it is that hey have in them but it works for mild cystitis in place of those horrible drinks you can get over the counter.

That sounds like my symptoms when I have a kidney infection- the only reason I have ever phoned in sick at work, I felt awful. Gp May well have some antibiotics just to get you through until the morning. All the best op.

Highfever · 26/12/2018 19:48

Not good. What time is appt?

Nursejackie1 · 26/12/2018 19:55

111 and badger. If you feel that crap you need abx as soon as u can get them. I had a bout of them and never could shift without antibiotics. Felt relief almost straight away. Official advice may be to drink etc etc. Do that to help it along but you know yourself if you need something more.

sherrysfortea · 26/12/2018 19:59

If you are feeling feverish I would go to hospital OP. If it's spread to your kidneys you need antibiotics and fast.

katekat383 · 26/12/2018 20:51

I cannot believe you have not had this seen to. Unbelievable actually.

katekat383 · 26/12/2018 20:53

Fever is not a good sign.
(I am actually speaking from experience, by the way.)

katekat383 · 26/12/2018 20:55

The pink tinge is likely to be blood. With an infection such as you describe, there will be blood and pus in your urine.

LoniceraJaponica · 26/12/2018 20:57

OhHoly I suspect that your suggestions won't touch it. The OP needs antibiotics.

user1471592953 · 26/12/2018 21:09

Poor you, OP. OOH doctors sometimes have a small supply of commonly needed medicines with them. Otherwise, he or should know which are open locally. If there is any doubt that you’ll be able to get hold of them I suspect he or she will direct you to hospital anyway. The infection cannot be left untreated. It doesn’t take long for oral abx to be too little, too late and IV might be needed. Depending on what time the appointment is, you may need to get yourself to hospital as you’re only going to get worse in the meantime.

styledisaster · 26/12/2018 21:36

So, turned up a couple of hours earlier than my appointment. And they saw me.
Diagnosed UTI and blood in urine.
The OOH doctor had some antibiotics to prescribe so didn’t need to find a pharmacy.
Shattered now so off to get some sleep.

Hopefully you will feel better soon.

katekat383 · 26/12/2018 21:39

Rest well. x

styledisaster · 26/12/2018 21:40

Temp was almost 38 too, so a little high.
Paracetamol and bed. Hoping antibiotics don’t take long to kick in.
At least I’m not having to miss work, as got another few days off!

Bless you Op. Glad you've got the antibiotics now. Hope you get some rest x

user1471592953 · 27/12/2018 06:46

Glad you’ve been seen OP. Rest up.

Weenurse · 27/12/2018 06:57

Take antibiotics until course is complete. Probiotics to keep gut healthy.
Cranberry tablets and vitamin C to help healing.
Aim for 1.5-2 litres of fluid per day.
Tea, coffee, alcohol, fizzy drinks and juice will act like you are throwing acid on an already irritated bladder so stick to water.
I hope you feel better soon
