To ask for urine infection tips?

So... it’s Christmas Day. Doctors have been shut all day. Along with pharmacies.
Noticed first thing this morning that my wee smelt foul (sorry for tmi).
Though maybe something I’d eaten.

As the day has gone on its got worse.
My whole urethra area is aching. I feel sick and hot and cold. It doesn’t really hurt when I wee, except for the last bit I push out.
Just generally feeling crappy.
I’m home alone with 2 sleeping kids. No one can come and babysit as everyone’s been drinking, with it being Christmas Day.
I don’t feel horrific enough to need to wake 2 toddlers to take them to out of hours god knows where with me. Probably the local hospital 10 miles away.
What can I do tonight to make it feel better?
Drank 3 pints of very weak squash, and all it’s done is make me wee more.
Done paracetamol.
Done warm bath with no bubbles.
Any tips?
Also can I get stuff over the counter? Pharmacy may be open tomorrow?
Only ever had 1 urine infection years ago so not sure if I need an actual doctor or not?

Utis are the bane of my life.i find ibuprofen better for the pain. Paracetamol has never touched it. Second bicarb. Find drinking warm water easier than cold. Hot water bottle is good. Doctors usually prescribe antibiotics over phone without needing to be seen. Take care, it's shit x

Haisuli · 25/12/2018 20:51

Just read your update, sorry they won't give you a prescription over the phone. Hope you have a better night. Make.sure you see someone tomorrow if you're still bad

styledisaster · 25/12/2018 20:53

They said pharmacist may be able to wangle something tomorrow on the advice of a doctor and they have doctors that they can call direct.
Fingers crossed as pharmacy on my road opens at 9am.

And now I feel like I’m going to throw up.
I’m starving but can’t stomach anything.
Hopefully get some medicine in me tomorrow.

Flowers I hope you feel better overnight. But please do seek more medical advice if your symptoms get worse. Even if you have to wake your children. I know it would be a massive hassle. But better than becoming seriously unwell.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 25/12/2018 21:55

I'm sorry you feel crap Thanks

I've had a kidney transplant so get UTIs quite often and they often get worse. All you can do is rest as much as possible and drink a lot of water to flush it out. Sleep when you can.

111 don't usually prescribe antibiotics over the phone and they won't deliver them anymore (at least in my area); you'd need to go for an appointment. They'd give you a prescription there but you'd need to find an open pharmacy to "cash" it; easy enough when there's a local pharmacy operating longer hours to cover but I don't think there has to be one tonight.

Tomorrow you should be able to see someone. All the best Thanks

katekat383 · 25/12/2018 22:13

It can develop and become potentially pretty nasty. I would have gone for the doctor’s appointment on offer. Sepsis can set in if it’s not treated properly.

ivykaty44 · 25/12/2018 22:19

Plenty of fluid as others have said, raw garlic is really good for UTI, but smelly but excellent natural medicinal help

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 25/12/2018 22:33

Hi OP, if you're anything like me, the worst bit is the uncomfortableness in the fanny area when not weeing. I find it can help to apply continuous pressure to the area, either roll up some loo roll and pop into your pants, or a hot water bottle between your legs

Just find it helps to settle a bit of the feelings until you can get som anti-biotics. Good luck though!

agnurse · 25/12/2018 22:50

UTIs need to be handled with antibiotics. The risk is that the infection can ascend to your kidneys and that can be very serious.

For now, lots of water, go as soon as you feel the need (the longer urine sits in the bladder, the less acidic it gets - and less acidic urine is a better breeding ground for bacteria), and you might consider cranberry juice - but ensure that it is sugar-free, as sugar feeds bacteria.

Highfever · 25/12/2018 22:56

Don't get typical supermarket cranberry juice. You can get biona cranberry juice. Asda even do it but shelved in a really unusual place.

ivykaty44 · 25/12/2018 23:01

Sorry I should say the garlic was a suggestion until you can see a doctor, it’s jyst that garlic has some great properties against uti- check it out and if you have some chop it up and eat it ( you have nothing to lose)

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 26/12/2018 09:14

How are you this morning?

styledisaster · 26/12/2018 09:22

Hhhmmm not sure really.
Wee still smelly. And still hurts a small amount at the end of the wee.
And feels strange in my bits, but not as painful as yesterday.
Going to try pharmacy in a bit.

tinysnickersaremyfavourite · 26/12/2018 09:38

Do try to get yourself some antibiotics. Last time I tried to manage without it went to my kidneys and made me so so ill.

Ansumpasty · 26/12/2018 09:58

Lots of Asda pharmacies can give you 2 different types of antibiotic over the counter. Call around and find one, good luck!

styledisaster · 26/12/2018 10:54

The pharmacist today said they couldn’t give them over the counter?
Only with a faxed or emailed prescription from a doctor.
Will see how I get on as the day goes on.
That powder sachet stuff is disgusting.

katekat383 · 26/12/2018 11:10

Do not neglect this. It is not just pop a Paracetamol time.

katekat383 · 26/12/2018 11:11

Walk in centre. Now.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 26/12/2018 11:14

It is disgusting, but it does help with the stinging. Chug it down as quickly as possible and follow with a nicer drink!

A GP also once recommended sitting facing the wrong way on the loo, and lean forwards with your arms on the cistern. It puts your bladder in a slightly different position so that it can empty better.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Thishatisnotmine · 26/12/2018 11:17

Ibruprofen, if you can take it, as it will help with the inflamation.

Cauliflowersqueeze · 26/12/2018 11:21

It’s not a cure but soaking a flannel in cold water and pressing it onto your bits can help relieve. Antibiotics clears it up in about 30 minutes for me

Cauliflowersqueeze · 26/12/2018 11:22

I’ve also been told that drinking lots and lots doesn’t help as it can inflame your bladder more. Feel so sorry for you I know exactly how crappy you will be feeling.

LoniceraJaponica · 26/12/2018 11:24

You really do need to take a urine sample to a doctor to be dip tested. Untreated UTIs can have very serious implications.

styledisaster · 26/12/2018 11:35

Gp opens at 8am tomorrow so I’ll get down there then.
Feels weird as my last uti was ridiculously painful.
This is just mildly uncomfortable, so wondering if it’s cystitis and not a full blown infection.
Doesn’t even sting when I wee though. Just an aching feeling when I push the last bit out.
And a strange thrush like feeling in my bits (without the itching tho). Probably tmi but almost feels like when you’ve had a bit too much sex, not a chance of that though lately!
But wee definitely smells horrible. Like a bit rotten/sulphur like.
