To ask for urine infection tips?

So... it’s Christmas Day. Doctors have been shut all day. Along with pharmacies.
Noticed first thing this morning that my wee smelt foul (sorry for tmi).
Though maybe something I’d eaten.

As the day has gone on its got worse.
My whole urethra area is aching. I feel sick and hot and cold. It doesn’t really hurt when I wee, except for the last bit I push out.
Just generally feeling crappy.
I’m home alone with 2 sleeping kids. No one can come and babysit as everyone’s been drinking, with it being Christmas Day.
I don’t feel horrific enough to need to wake 2 toddlers to take them to out of hours god knows where with me. Probably the local hospital 10 miles away.
What can I do tonight to make it feel better?
Drank 3 pints of very weak squash, and all it’s done is make me wee more.
Done paracetamol.
Done warm bath with no bubbles.
Any tips?
Also can I get stuff over the counter? Pharmacy may be open tomorrow?
Only ever had 1 urine infection years ago so not sure if I need an actual doctor or not?

Keep a close eye on it OP. I had the same symptoms as you 24 hours before I deteriorated a lot, started vomiting and was then admitted 12 hours later for IV antibiotics for a kidney infection (the oral antibiotics didn’t work quickly enough during that 12 hour period). By the end I couldn’t even walk down the stairs in to the ambulance. Like you, I just didn’t feel that ill initially.

styledisaster · 26/12/2018 15:36

Still debating what to do.
Feel a bit sicky and uncomfortable.
May try to wait until tomorrow, but feeling increasingly yucky.
Not even weeing loads. But feels uncomfortable down there, especially after a wee. It’s very sensitive.

Sometimes 111 will send a script to a pharmacy if they’re happy it sounds like a straightforward UTI.

styledisaster · 26/12/2018 15:46

Already asked them last night if they’d send a script and they wouldn’t.
Asked the pharmacy today if they could call 111 and get me a script and they said no too.
Most annoying situation at Xmas for sure.

My worst uti gave no stinging when weeing. I went downhill very quickly as it went up to my kidneys, I felt as unwell as when I had flu. I should have been seen sooner but I left it. You really need to get a dip test done sooner rather than later. I feel for you because they can make you feel so unwell.

Poster65 · 26/12/2018 15:55

I used to suffer so much with these. Aspirin in water always helped me so much

bathtimesanity · 26/12/2018 15:59

Water, water, water OP & pee as much a possible. Go and see a walk in centre if it's not better in 2 days or it gets worse. Sympathy for you- urine infections are so painful! I got a kidney infection from one once and ended up in A&E!

Ringdonna · 26/12/2018 16:02

Drink plenty. Is cranberry juice still recommended?

MissEliza · 26/12/2018 16:43

Poor you Op. Stick to plain water til you can see the GP. Do you have vagisil in the house? I find it can soothe a bit after a painful trip to the toilet. Good luck x

AnnaMariaDreams · 26/12/2018 16:49

Definitely GP tomorrow and drink loads of water in the meantime. Hot water bottle will help.

styledisaster · 26/12/2018 18:52

Urgh. So sick. Finally got an out of hours appointment at stupid o clock tonight 15 miles away.
It’s so so much worse.

OP posts:
Highfever · 26/12/2018 18:54

Will you be able to get prescription though. Can you turn up early and hope they take pity on you?

styledisaster · 26/12/2018 18:56

Oh god. Didn’t even think re prescription. There must be a midnight pharmacy open somewhere? No doubt another 10 miles in the opposite direction.
Why did I not get an appointment when it was just a niggle? I’m so stupid.

Theoryofmould · 26/12/2018 18:59

Ask on any local groups if anyone knows where there's an open pharmacy. I have known years ago enough for a dose or two, doctors who had this to hand.
Your not stupid, your like some of us that don't want to waste an appointment or think we can battle on through.
Hope you feel better soon.

Highfever · 26/12/2018 19:02

I'm sure at times I've been given actual medication by ooh. Otherwise 111 will know open pharmacist.

nephthys · 26/12/2018 19:02

Alka Seltzer neutralises the acid. Sorry you’re feeling so rough, urine infections are so debilitating. Wish you better.

Highfever · 26/12/2018 19:04

Ring 111. Check pharmacy times. Check if worth turning up earlier. Also we were sandwiched between two OOH places. Check if there are other ooh too.

styledisaster · 26/12/2018 19:05

Just found every single pharmacy opening times in the pretty large city they are sending me too.
Out of 30 pharmacies the latest one was open until 6pm tonight.
Great.

OP posts:
styledisaster · 26/12/2018 19:11

And just checked the county I live in.
Out of 41 pharmacies not a single one will be open.
Really hope there’s a secret pharmacy somewhere.

No help at this minute in time but Azo maximum strength tablets are brilliant, I buy them from amazon as they don't sell them in the uk. They work quickly but make your pee go a very strange colour.

styledisaster · 26/12/2018 19:14

My wee is starting to get tinged pink. Don’t think that’s a good sign!

OP posts:
SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 26/12/2018 19:31

Are there any major hospitals nearby, they'll probably have a 24hr on site pharmacy

styledisaster · 26/12/2018 19:33

Yeah there’s 2 hospitals. Maybe I’ll have to go there.

OP posts:
MissSingerbrains · 26/12/2018 19:33

OOH will be able to give you the meds if all pharmacies are closed Flowers

GertrudeCB · 26/12/2018 19:34

If the walk in is attached to a hospital they may have an open pharmacy hospital.
