AIBU to think this is rude?

Hi, we moved into a new area and DH went round with chocolates to the neighbours. Two out of the six refused at the door saying we don't eat chocolates. AIBU to think that's a bit rude? Surely even if you don't eat it, you'd just take it and pass it on to someone else or bin it?

Yes a bit rude but maybe they were a bit taken aback and didn’t have time to think of an appropriate reply. Very nice of you and you’re DH to do so.

MrsWillGardner · 25/12/2018 16:19

When did you go around? Today?

BottleOfJameson · 25/12/2018 16:21

It's a bit weird yes. I would have said thanks and regifted it. If I really didn't want them I'd have been extra effusive in my thanks and explained that unfortunately I can't eat them but what a lovely thought etc.

Maybe it's a particularly unfriendly neighborhood and they want to discourage you from being knocking or making small talk with them.

Coolaschmoola · 25/12/2018 16:22

Maybe they thought you were trying to dump your unwanted gifts on them?

ScreamingBadSanta · 25/12/2018 16:23

It depends what they said. If it was just "We don't eat chocolates, bye!" that was rude. If it was "That's really kind of you, but we don't eat chocolates - thank you for thinking of us" or similar then that was reasonable.

BackforGood · 25/12/2018 16:24

They must all be MNers.
there's a whole heap of strange, unfriendly behaviours I read about on here all the time that I never encounter in my life outside of MN.
Oh no, hang on, if they opened the door, they can't all be MNers Wink

CoughLaughFart · 25/12/2018 16:25

I’d be thrilled if someone gave me free chocolates!

AllKinds · 25/12/2018 16:27

Who the fuck turns down chocolates from a friendly new neighbour?

Butcowsdontgetmarried · 25/12/2018 16:29

Maybe they’re arseholes?

Nothininmenoggin · 25/12/2018 16:29

Wow you sound like lovely new neighbours. I would be very happy with the chocolates, what a lovely thought so YANBU, though the neighbours are.

HopeHopity · 25/12/2018 16:29

ConfusedConfused I was about to take a box of chocolates next door BlushConfusedConfused

starcrossedseahorse · 25/12/2018 16:29

That is EXTREMELY rude! How awful of them!

Athena51 · 25/12/2018 16:30

I'd have been thrilled but then I pop round and welcome new neighbours so I'm clearly a bloody weirdo anyway Xmas Grin

People are odd, don't let it stop you and your DH being nice.

Whataboutbobbo · 25/12/2018 16:34

Very rude.

ThatPeskyElf · 25/12/2018 16:36

Willing to take them off your hands?? I would be very polite and offer you a glass of wine and offer to share them with you!

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 25/12/2018 16:37

Weirdos. Next time try the Chocolate Test before you move in so you know what sort of freaky neighbourhood you're thinking of moving into.

RandomUsernameHere · 25/12/2018 16:37

YANBU, it's really rude.
They could easily have given them to someone else or to the food bank.

HopeHopity · 25/12/2018 16:40

Do I go next door or not? It is getting late 😫

WhatsUpHun · 25/12/2018 16:42

you went round on Christmas day? thats a bit weird

thebaronetofcockburn · 25/12/2018 16:42

Rude. I don't eat chocolates myself, I don't care for sweets, but I'd say thanks and pass them on.

LoniceraJaponica · 25/12/2018 16:43

I agree with you BackforGood

This is very similar to a recent thread about being friendly with new neighbours. I can't link to it though.

calamitycake · 25/12/2018 16:45

Hope - save them for tomorrow. Gifts for neighbours should be delivered before Christmas not on the day when they may be obliged to invite you in.

Qcng · 25/12/2018 16:46

Where have you moved to?

HopeHopity · 25/12/2018 16:47

@calamitycake really? Blush they delivered theirs last Night but I was bathing DC. We have been neighbours for 15 years so it would be just a drop off but now this whole post made me doubt myself 😫

I will bring them tomorrow 😫

WhatwouldCJdo · 25/12/2018 16:48

Rude.
Why not smile say thanks and Merry Christmas?

Then gift them onto to someone who like chocolates (like me) or a food bank?
