I thought I had jelly crystals to make the trifle but I don’t! Can I melt a few fruit jelly sweets instead?? All the red ones?

People think it is classier to spread jam on the trifle sponges instead of jellies I think. But if you were to melt the sweets I would simmer in hot water with extra sugar (or raspberry cordial) as surely they are chewy because such a high gelatine content?

You can make a jelly free trifle instead. The world is divided between jelly or no jelly.

Knittedfairies · 25/12/2018 12:18

That sounds a bit.... unpleasant, OP! Just go jelly-less for once.

Italian triffle!

If you've got jam, you probably have the ingredients to do something like this? (Popular and we do it because so many people loathe jelly in trifle.)

Jelly in a trifle is horrid!
Just use jam

marvellousnightforamooncup · 25/12/2018 12:21

Not sure that would work. You can make trifle without jelly though.

I prefer trifle without jelly.

Frosty66611 · 25/12/2018 12:27

I also prefer trifle without jelly. Sponge, custard, fruit, cream and flakes on top

Littlebearcat · 25/12/2018 13:36

Thanks all for your responses. I have apricot jam so will try that! Merry Christmas 🎄

Apricot jam in trifle is a great idea!
Enjoy!

YoungLennyGodber · 25/12/2018 13:53

Sounds delicious! Enjoy it! Happy Christmas! Smile

I prefer trifle without the cold custard Grin

I would go with Jam

Insomnibrat · 25/12/2018 15:13

With a healthy shot of amaretto

Ellapaella · 25/12/2018 19:18

You don't need jelly.. trifle sponge, sherry, tinned fruit and some fruit juice topped in cream and custard.

Littlebearcat · 25/12/2018 21:29

So, we made the trifle sans jelly- it was delicious but a bit drippy
Next time I have to make one without jelly I will up the cake amount , or reduce the juice.

Thanks for the tips, I am a trifle with jelly person and not yet converted, but our attempt was yummy!
