OnBall Oh that's awful, hugs to you & yours.
homeishere hope you're recovered soon.
A couple of lighter-hearted ones for you. My first MIL was, to put it mildly, an unreasonable woman. Arriving late on Xmas Eve to spend a couple of days with her & her husband, the XH and I were a bit surprised to see no evidence of activity in the kitchen. I knew she didn't particularly enjoy cooking - which might have been because she was so bad at it! - so I did my DIL duty and asked what i could do to help. Nothing. Nothing? No, nothing. OK, that was me put in my place.
Xmas morning - still no sign on anything culinary happening. CanI help? No, all in hand. Umm, OK.
Long story short - xmas lunch was cold turkey (they'd cooked it xmas eve morning before we arrived) ; boiled potatoes (not even new pots ); frozen green beans and tinned peas. All drowned in bisto granules gravy. She'd even managed to get lumps in that.
Desert was tinned fruit cocktail with evaporated milk.
Oh joy.
A couple of years later we were emotionally blackmailed into spending Xmas day with them again. This time we said we'd arrive xmas eve, have lunch with them and then drive to my parents that evening (where the food would be good and plentiful :)). Once again, no sign of anything happening in the kitchen on xmas day. This time I kept my trap shut. Eventually, XH asks 'what about lunch' and she gave him a withering look and replied "You said you were going to her parents, I'm surprised you haven't left yet." (And yes, she did refer to me exactly that way)
I've never got in a car and got the hell out of dodge as quickly as we did that day. We had a long journey and eventually arrived at my folks' in time to have a turkey sandwich. At least the turkey was still warm;)
