So...currently in bed with explosive diarrhoea after my DH had the same (and sickness) yesterday. He’s looking after the 1 and 3 yr old.

We were hosting Christmas, so have to put off both set of parents and my dsis.

AIBU to ask for you to regale me with your Christmas horror stories to cheer me up?

There was the year (2006) I forgot and couldn't work out why everywhere was closed. I still don't know how the hell I managed it.

Then five days later my kitchen tap exploded (turned the handle and it blew apart) and flooded the flat, bruising me due to bits flying and the pressure of the water being so high it actually hurt to be under the water and damaged the ceiling. Landlord turned up pissed and closed the door and said "it'll dry, have a drink, go to bed and forget about it love". It took me ages to get them to understand it needed work done. And it took far too long for me to find the stop tap as well as the landlord hadn't told me where it was! (I've since put up a sign saying where it is for new tenants).

I've lost people at Christmas as well which makes it difficult, and it's like the reminder lasts for half the year now because the shops get their stuff in so early. My last Christmas with my family I was thrown out because of my mental health issues "ruining it for everyone"

3 years ago, December 23rd, I'd had a horrible cold for a couple of weeks but for the previous couple of days it had been rapidly getting better. Anyway, 10pm (ish), funny little tickle in my ear hole, by midnight almost completely deaf with a throat so swollen could barely breathe.
Out of hours, a doctor who was more interested in lecturing me about my already diagnosed and being treated High BP than the fact I was going suddenly deaf and couldn't open my mouth wide enough because of the swelling for him to get the tongue depressor into my gob. No antibiotics on site, a prescription for penicillin in hand but no where open within 100 miles to fill it. By 10am Christmas Eve when DH fetched my tablets, I had rivers of yellow water running down my jaw on both sides and was completely deaf. Rarely felt so much pain in my life as the 8 hours waiting for those pills.

No food, couldn't swallow. All the Christmas food had to be binned as the freezer was only small and already full, the food we had struggled to pay for as DH had recently lost all his overtime when a clients contract finished. Couldn't watch TV or listen to music.

Took my hearing 4 weeks to return.

I'm at work today and only have a packet of pickled onion crisps and a star bar to eat for xmas lunch.

LongWalkShortPlank · 25/12/2018 13:31

My 5 year old has pinworms. [santa]

Tryingbutfailingmiserably · 25/12/2018 13:33

Bloody hell.... some of these are so sad. So sorry to those who have suffered a loss.

Travisandthemonkey · 25/12/2018 13:34

@knittedmouse
Pickled onion monster munch I hope. The Christmas lunch of champions Wink

AhoyDelBoy · 25/12/2018 13:35

What was wrong BettyBitchface sounds awful! Xmas Shock. My father died Christmas Day 2008, so the 10 year anniversary today. He had been diagnosed with cancer just two weeks before.

YoThePussy · 25/12/2018 13:42

SilverySurfer · 25/12/2018 13:52

I was going to post something lighthearted but don't feel I can now - so sorry Derek and Onbail and anyone else who may have lost a loved one.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 25/12/2018 13:56

Everyone who is having a bad time, my sympathies.

I hope the coming year brings you joy and peace and that Christmas 2019 is better.

Pernickity1 · 25/12/2018 13:57

Thank you Stephisaur your post made me laugh while I’m currently in bed sick - another one with a tummy bug here!

Spent 4 hours driving through traffic yesterday all the while trying to entertain my 1 and 2 year olds (The one year old screamed ALOT of the way). Made it to my mothers house and was so excited to be home for Christmas as we had a big family dinner planned at my DSis today and I was due to go on a (very, very rare) night out with old school friends tomorrow night. Now it’s all ruined Sad

Currently sat on the floor beside the toilet feeling sorry for myself.

However reading posts on here has put it in perspective and given me some humble pie. I’m so sorry to derek and the others who have lost family and beloved pets Flowers

canberramum · 25/12/2018 14:00

It seems petty compared to some of these, but dd4 woke up vomiting at 1am this morning. All plans cancelled. We'd booked to go out to Christmas lunch but instead it's been toast and comforting a very sad little girl.

YoThePussy · 25/12/2018 14:00

I was knocked down by a child pushing a supermarket trolley yesterday. Banged my head and ended up in A&E. Not well enough to travel to family so on my own today..

Many years ago the TV broke on Christmas Day. Dad had to pacify two angry teenagers desperate to se the Christmas Top Of The Pops. Elderly neighbour without a TV who always spent the day with us was livid as she was looking forward to Christmas Morecombe and Wise.

CollapsedGingerbreadHouse · 25/12/2018 14:11

A few years ago when dd1 was 2 and dd2 was 3 months DH has a mental be, full on psychosis and paranoid delusions. This was the first time it had happened and I was terrified. He thought he could speak to God, that the dds were being influenced by satanic forces, that the masons were after him and we were all in danger. So that was fun....

Slightly more lighthearted, we had a power outage on Christmas Eve once when I was still living at home. Just our house in the road, and it lasted until 27th. No heat, no cooker. It was quite fun having to use candles for everything, but we went to mum's friend's for dinner, thankfully.

otterturk · 25/12/2018 15:28

My father hoovered (and destroyed) a £6k necklace of mine that slipped off

proseccoaficionado · 25/12/2018 15:48

2 years ago I ended up at the hospital with a horrible stomach bug (fucks knows where it came from!). It was so bad I crawled in bed all day, puking and diarrhea. Hmm

heatherblue · 25/12/2018 15:50

One year the wall-mounted cabinet containing every piece of crockery and glassware we owned, fell off the wall smashing everything in it. Cue frantic scurrying around neighbours borrowing bits.

TryItAndDieFatLass · 25/12/2018 16:17

2 years ago I was feeling dreadful, awful back pains, high temp, couldnt eat and slept on and off. I was rushed into hospital by ambulance early the next morning with Sepsis.

So sorry for everyone missing someone or a pet this Christmas. It sucks Flowers

BrettAndersonscheekbones · 25/12/2018 16:29

Eight years ago on Xmas day, our 3 month old kitten escaped and went missing. Kids distraught. He turned up 3 days later at the local RSPCA. I'd also broken my arm the week before.

2 years ago on the 23rd, my husband was involved in a head-on collision in the bus he was driving, cuts and bruises and shaken. A few days later, our other cat suffered an eye injury so bad, it was touch and go whether he'd have to have it removed. In the end he didn't but at great expense!

GunillaGarsonGoldberg · 25/12/2018 16:33

Sorry to those who have lost loved ones and pets, sending lots of love to you all.

My horror story, is the Christmas I got a onesie, I needed the loo so popped upstairs to bathroom, pulled it down and had a huge post Christmas lunch pop.

Confused as I didn’t hear a poop sound - yes you guessed it, I shit in the hood of the onesie - now that was difficult to get off without getting it all over me, the family take great delight in telling the story of hearing my shrieks!

This year I have an ear infection and feel rotten!

x2boys · 25/12/2018 16:41

12 years ago i was in labour all day on xmas day ds1 was born at 5.50 am boxing day whilst the out come was lovely the whole of xmas day was a bit crap tbh!

Whataboutbobbo · 25/12/2018 16:42

@derek, so sorry for your loss. Flowers

JaceLancs · 25/12/2018 16:46

I was setting the table for lunch and noticed some water on table - thought it must have been a spilt drink from last night that I hadn’t noticed to clean up
Not a chance - I’ve developed a roof leak (dining room is part of kitchen extension with flat roof)
Dripping through light fitting right in middle of table
Ate dinner by candlelight with a bowl underneath it
Didn’t enjoy meal or able to relax as stressing about not being able to afford to have it fixed in new year
Just sat down and tried to think of something more pleasant and DB rang to say DM v upset as DF (in nursing home) cried when she left after visiting him today
It’s the first time he has shed a tear and been anything other than doggedly determined to be cheerful n improve on his limited abilities since he had a stroke in October
It’s breaking me up thinking of him and am going over there as soon as I can get away

nicoala1 · 25/12/2018 16:52

Gunilla,

I howled laughing at that story!

A couple of years ago we had a small group for dinner. Put small turkey in a pyrex dish and duly covered with foil etc.

DH took it out of the oven and slipped on what we can only assume was oil or grease from some other dish. Turkey went one way, dish fell on top and crashed to pieces.

We fried some rashers and sausages and had stuffing and veg. Was a great laugh really. We got over it.

AGHHHH · 25/12/2018 17:28

I shit in the hood of the onesie

😂😂😂😂😂!!!
