HELP power gone off

Help! We just moved into a new house 5 days ago with our 6 week old. Power has gone off, no bang no noise, just switched off suddenly - thought it was the prepaid meter running out but when examined the small switches on then bottom of the consumer unit / fuse box were off despite the main one being on (like in pic).

I've turned them back on, turned the main switch on and off and still no power. We've put £40 on the meter already so it shouldn't be that, though something may have gone wrong, the meter is as elderly as the unit and the display is knackered.

HELP! Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you checked with the neighbours to make sure it's not a problem on the grid?

teraculum29 · 24/12/2018 13:23

check with neighbours, if they have electricity call your local power board they will take from there

Turn main power switch (on the right) off, then back on. See if any of the small switches then go off again or if all stay on.

Check with neighbours. Check on electricity board app/website for any known outages. Call 105.

have you big appliances running (washing mashine, dishwasher, chest freezer) if yes, switch them off and try to switch the fuses one by one.

Also, my electricity did this when water was getting in, one time it was my steam mop and another time I was cleaning around the hob and water leaked through somewhere. It needed switched off at the wall before the electricity would come on.

Try turning all the individual switches off and the big switch, then turn them on individually and see which, if any, work on their own. Could be one of the circuits tripping the rest every time it's switched on (dodgy lightbulb or something).

GreenTulips · 24/12/2018 13:28

Leave them off
Switch main power back on

Switch one on and see
If that's ok switch the next one
Keep going to find the circuit causing the problem

Push the test button on the main breaker on right hand side.
On depressing the switch should trip if power is to the house.
If not push main switch all the way down and back up, try test button again.

Your mcbs (7 small ones)are all off , push them up to turn on.
