Aibu to ask you to help MIL from NI who needs a drink?

MIL is over from NI and drinks limited alcohol. The thing she does like is ‘West Coast Cooler’, which is widely available at home but not here in London. Does anyone know of any English supermarkets who definitely stock it?

Sainsburys online seem to have them...

JinglebellsJulie · 23/12/2018 21:08

Looks like Sainsburys is your best bet

SaucyJack · 23/12/2018 21:09

Google says Sainsbury’s stock it.

If not, it seems very similar to the Echo Falls fruit based drinks for the ladies.

WorraLiberty · 23/12/2018 21:10

When I read the thread title, I thought blimey, how stressed is she? Grin

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 23/12/2018 21:11

Wine coolers is an American term for what we call alco pops.

0hT00dles · 23/12/2018 21:15

Tesco used to stock it near goodge street. So worth checking a tesco with a big irish section!

They used to have the white and rose one. Good luck!

TheFlis12345 · 23/12/2018 21:16

A cooler is often what they refer to a spritzer as in the US, so just wine with soda or lemonade.

I knew before I opened the thread that this was going to be about west coast cooler. I was horrified when I moved to England for uni and discovered it wasn't available there. It's quite a unique taste so can't think of anything that would be similar, I changed to drinking Smirnoff ice in those days.

PotteringAlong · 23/12/2018 21:17

Our local Tesco sells west coast cooler, much to the delight of my Irish friends!

PseudoBadger · 23/12/2018 21:23

Thanks everyone! It definitely isn’t in any Sainsbury’s that I can get to tomorrow, and from last year’s experience in Tesco on Christmas Eve it wasn’t there either. I think we will have to plan further in advance for next year. She is going to have try of Asti - anything sweet!

I have a couple of relatives who are very occasional drinkers and who similarly prefer sweeter drinks if they have them. Asti/Prosecco with a few drops of elderflower cordial goes down well as do drinks which would normally be made with tonic but which I make for them with lemonade. Plus by mixing you can adjust sweetness to taste.

Stardustinmyeyes · 23/12/2018 21:41

You can buy it from amazon

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 23/12/2018 21:45

What about raspberry cordial? Mixed with prosecco is absolutely gorgeous!

hippoherostandinghere · 23/12/2018 21:48

Wow - you learn something new everyday, I don't realise West cost cooler was a NI thing! You guys are missing out.

PseudoBadger · 23/12/2018 21:55

DH says a shop up the road sells Buckfast! But not West Coast Cooler Confused

It always amazes me that people leave Christmas planning to the last minute still writing Christmas cards that were due in the post days ago, no presents wrapped (thanks OP)

PseudoBadger · 23/12/2018 22:21

No no I just forget every year that she doesn’t drink anything else...

Youcouldbemysilversprings · 23/12/2018 22:21

Try yellow tail or barefoot pink moscato, it will be in the rose wine section, very sweet and low on alcohol too! Or Lambrini /lambrusco, those are very similar to WCC

ILoveMaxiBondi · 23/12/2018 22:25
Shock

West coast Cooler isn’t a thing in England?? What? How? Why?

cobblett36 · 23/12/2018 23:14

I'm a fruity drinker and can recommend echo falls berry vodka with lemonade. Its like fizzy fruit water. I'm curious about this drink, if I ever visit NI or see some I'll have to try it.
