Shutdowns, military pullouts, and resignations: it’s Christmas and Trump thread 89

It’s chaos in Trump’s world, more so than usual, with #TrumpResign trending in Twitter after a number of key debacles: the pull-out of US troops from Syria, the resignation of General Jim Mattis, and the shutdown of the government over Christmas due to bipartisan disagreement over wall funding. (Those are just 3 issues.) The next few weeks will be rocky.

God don’t let him catch on. I can imagine him grabbing the nuclear briefcase and climbing up the Empire State Building a la King Kong in his underpants giggling manically. Especially after the US miliatary (I forget which bit) posting a tweet about being in the position of dropping a bigger bomb (than the Times Squate time bomb). 😲

I have an over imaginative imagination.

"TRUMP DERANGEMENT" is about right.

Meanwhile, the Russians now have a better delivery system for their nukes: www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/dec/26/avangard-russias-hypersonic-nuclear-capable-missil/

Yowch, I can totally see him doing a King Kong – one way or another.

He's definitely the kid who'd set fire to his own bedroom if he wasn't getting his own way.

General McChrystal criticised Trump. Fox, in turn, jeers at McChrystal. Trump sees Fox segment then fires off juvenile, unpresidential tweet. (General McChrystal ‘is a retired United States Army four-star general best known for his command of Joint Special Operations Command in the mid-2000s. His last assignment was as Commander, International Security Assistance Force and Commander, U.S. Forces’. (Wikipedia). He does not deserve such puerile insults from a five-time draft dodger.

Trump also sent this misleading tweet re: North Korea. It refers to KJU’s New Year Address, of which a tiny part discussed US relations. I include that below so you can see how highly off-the-mark this tweet is.

“Kim Jong Un says North Korea will not make or test nuclear weapons, or give them to others - & he is ready to meet President Trump anytime.” PBS News Hour. I also look forward to meeting with Chairman Kim who realizes so well that North Korea possesses great economic potential!

(From KCNA, Supreme Leader’s New Year Address)
‘The historic, first-ever DPRK-US summit meeting and talks brought about a dramatic turn in the bilateral relationship which was the most hostile on the earth and made a great contribution to ensuring peace and security of the Korean peninsula and the region.

It is the invariable stand of our Party and the government of our Republic and my firm will to establish a new bilateral relationship that meets the demand of the new era as clarified in the June 12 DPRK-US Joint Statement, build a lasting and durable peace regime and advance towards complete denuclearization.

Accordingly, we declared at home and abroad that we would neither make and test nuclear weapons any longer nor use and proliferate them, and we have taken various practical measures.

If the US responds to our proactive, prior efforts with trustworthy measures and corresponding practical actions, bilateral relations will develop wonderfully at a fast pace through the process of taking more definite and epochal measures.

We have no intention to be obsessed with and keep up the unsavoury past relationship between the two countries, but are ready to fix it as early as possible and work to forge a new relationship in line with the aspirations of the two peoples and the requirements of the developing times.

As evidenced by the reality of north-south relations that made rapid progress last year, nothing is impossible to a willing heart, and dialogue partners will reach the destinations that are beneficial to each other without fail if they put forward fair proposals on the principle of recognizing and respecting each other by abandoning their dogged insistence broadmindedly and conduct negotiations with a proper stand and the will to settle issues.

I want to believe that our relations with the United States will bear good fruit this year, as inter-Korean relations have greeted a great turn, by the efforts of the two sides.

I am of the opinion that, while meeting and holding talks beneficial to both sides with the US president in June last year, we exchanged constructive views and reached a consensus of understanding for a shortcut to removing each other's apprehensions and resolving the entangled problems.

I am ready to meet the US president again anytime, and will make efforts to obtain without fail results which can be welcomed by the international community.

But if the United States does not keep the promise it made in the eyes of the world, and out of miscalculation of our people's patience, it attempts to unilaterally enforce something upon us and persists in imposing sanctions and pressure against our Republic, we may be compelled to find a new way for defending the sovereignty of the country and the supreme interests of the state and for achieving peace and stability of the Korean peninsula.’

Hello, everyone, a very happy and peaceful 2019 to you all!

I had been going to stay away from these threads but then I saw this headline just now: U.S. Agents Use Tear Gas to Drive Away Migrants at Mexico Border, and I'm being sucked right back into the horror that is Trump's America. I'm also beginning to doubt my sanity as the way this is written gives the impression that it the people at the border brought it upon themselves - but this IS shocking, right? I don't want this stuff to be normalized.

Gumpendorf · 02/01/2019 06:55

On point.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 02/01/2019 09:01

Merde I agree - it's appalling and is being ignored or 'normalised' as you say.
(But hey! The Geneva Convention? That's just those pesky foreigners trying to tell us what to do!)

Trump starts 2019 by tear-gassing migrant women and kids. Barely got reported. The same press that milked “but her emails” and nitpicks every 2020 Democrat to death is ignoring a Geneva Convention violation. The bar has been lowered so much for him an ant couldn’t crawl under it.

Looks like Erik Prince ticks at least two of those boxes...

AcrossthePond55 · 02/01/2019 17:48

Perhaps 2019 will be dubbed the 'Year of the Trump Shit Waterfall'. It certainly does feel as if the headed for a slow wreck train we've been on these last two years may not only be speeding up, but it may be going in a direction that he didn't expect it to go!

Gump's post above with the 'Year of the Wolf" quote: ^"Trump doesn’t recognize, understand or respect institutional authority. He only understands personal power. He sees every conflict as a personal conflict in which he destroys or gets destroyed."* is the best and most on point summation of his mindset that I've seen. Absolutely spot on! His ego does not permit the admission of another person as someone to be 'considered'.

I don't remember what thread it was, but someone posted this definition of a narcissist; "A person for whom other people cease to exist when he exits a room". That's also damned accurate!
