Manuka honey and lemon juice with warm water. Sip regularly.

PointlessPigeon · 22/12/2018 01:12

Codeine is a cough suppressant. Buy some cocodamol. Won't stop it but will reduce it a tiny bit.

Sleep as much as pos to let body heal

PointlessUsername · 22/12/2018 01:13

Lemsip- didnt make me feel any 'better' but did ease the tickly cough alot.
Hope you feel better soon Flowers

PaintingOwls · 22/12/2018 01:13

Same here. All kinds of muscles are hurting that I never knew I had.

lljkk · 22/12/2018 01:32

If you keep finding you can't hold a conversation due to coughing, then get checked.
I NEVER say to get checked, btw.
But that's what DH was like when he had pneumonia (due to HiB). Couldn't have a convo. I still twitch when he gets a persistent cough now.

mummypeepee · 22/12/2018 01:34

Was going to suggest codeine also

garethsouthgatesmrs · 22/12/2018 02:04

persistant cough = see GP.

hompoe you feel better

mommybear1 · 22/12/2018 02:07

Try some vicks vapour rub on the bottom of your feet at night (put socks on!) I don't know how but it works Grin

CisMyArse · 22/12/2018 03:03

Baileys is creamy and maybe irritating your cough.

Drink warm Ribena or Vimto with honey regularly.

Vicks underside feet.

Codeine only at night - too much of that stuff and you'll be constipated to hell and back.

Kbear · 22/12/2018 12:38

Steam

Buy the steam thing from boots £7 and sit and inhale and it might ease the cough

Or a bowl of steam - head under a towel - dangerous though

MatildaTheCat · 22/12/2018 12:43

When I had whooping cough it was a bit like that but I had quite long gaps without coughing and then fits that just wouldn’t stop.

I diagnosed myself and went to the GP who was politely very sure I didn’t have WC but didna blood test to confirm either way. Obviously I was right. Antibiotics sorted it.

And yes, I had been vaccinated. 3 out of 4 members of our family have had it so it’s not uncommon.

yawning801 · 22/12/2018 12:47

I had this about a week ago, I got some over-the-counter stuff which worked wonders. I found that the position I was sitting in also affected it, when I was sitting leaning forwards a bit it was much better.

Crackedvase · 22/12/2018 13:19

Pholcodine cough mix from the chemist. Great stuff!

bellajay · 22/12/2018 13:27

Gee’s Linctus worked for me in the sense that it helped me sleep a few full nights which made me feel a ton better and recover more quickly. It’s available in Boots.

Santasonmynaughtylist · 22/12/2018 13:40

That cold that was going around is leaving people with a horrid cough, cocodamol and a chesty cough bottle from the chemist helps a little.

recklessruby · 22/12/2018 15:40

Thanks all.
I have tried honey and lemon and hot Ribena. It's been working well.
Forgot about gees linctus and the steaming under a towel thing so will try that.
Haven't got the heart to send ds back to the shops for it today though. He is wrapping my presents downstairs.
And yes dd reminded me Bailey s was dairy so wouldn't help. Feel silly for trying it now.
I work in a school so all the usual bugs have been out in force lately.
Don't think it's whooping cough but I m old enough to have not been vaccinated and my sis had that one winter. It was much worse than this.
Hoping a day in bed will help.

Night nurse.

CloserIAm2Fine · 22/12/2018 15:44

Throat spray ( over the counter at Boots) gave me brief respite from a particularly nasty cough

recklessruby · 22/12/2018 16:08

Seems like a visit to boots is needed
