Help! No room in fridge or freezer, overcome by a nearly empty Tescos and a vague memory of panicking when the turkey nearly didn’t defrost in time last year I bought an extra large frozen bird last night and left it in the utility room sink to defrost over the next three days ready to brine on Sunday and cook Monday. The bastard Is nearly defrosted already. Do I cook it tomorrow, bin it or drink all the gin in the house and ignore it?

Get an ice box and add in some extra cool packs/ice. But wrap the turkey in plenty of cling film first ( we endid up with an inedible blue turkey one year when a cool pack exploded in-transit).

I used to defrost mine in an ice chest in the corner of the kitchen it'd take at least three days. So an ice chest/box should keep it cool for days with changes of ice blocks or a bag of crushed ice sitting on top of it.

Can you not just put it in the fridge?

Tinabn · 21/12/2018 23:06

The fridge is packed solid, as is the freezer. I got everything last night, before that it was empty. I’ve ‘done’ Christmas in a fortnight after getting over surgery. Oh, I felt so smug last night!

You could always go and buy a chicken christmas eve and serve it up covered in gravy before anyone realises it's not turkey.

PutsFootInIt · 21/12/2018 23:21

Or the classic 'hide under bacon' trick.

HollyandIvyarelivingitupagain · 21/12/2018 23:32

Hang it up somewhere cool for the next few days.Fresh turrkeys are hung to mature for ages so a frozen should be fine.We used to hang ours in a string bag in the garage unwrapped. It keeps the skin dry so doesn't go off unjust a few days.

The turkey is in the fridge, I’ve been brutal and made everything budge up. Anyone know if it will be okay to cook it on Monday night or should it be earlier?
Not entirely unrelated, aren’t Hotel chocolate’s monito truffles wonderful. I expect lots of people would eat all six in a sitting....

You could always cook it and reheat it if you're worried but it's probably fine.

BlueEyedBengal · 21/12/2018 23:57

Love anything to do with chocolate!

CrispbuttyNo1 · 22/12/2018 00:04

Buy or borrow a plug in cool box to put it in
