WIBU to park here?

Went to do a supermarket shop today-big retail park type place with millions of spaces but all full --what with every other git having had the same plan as me

Drove round a few times but no spaces, toddler wakes up from napping and starts yelling like a banshee....so I thought nah, fuck this shit, and parked in one of the spaces for electric cars. I should point out that there was an entire row of these-we're talking a good 12-15 spaces, and only a quarter of them were occupied

Anyway, got us out the car and someone walking past makes a comment along the lines of 'you know those are for electric cars don't you?' To which I smiled and gave a jolly double thumbs up back

My view is, there were loads of these spaces, and it's not like I was taking up a disabled space. When I told my mum though she was HORRIFIED because society has rules and I'm clearly some kind of anarchist. I was like, it's Christmas mum-who dares wins!

So, WIBU?!

Naughty list for you OP, no presents from Santa! Ask again in 50 years and I might call you unreasonable, but today? Nah.

BlueJay1 · 21/12/2018 14:30

You shouldn't have parked there to be honest.
I go mad if I see people parking in parent & toddler spaces. There's no reason good enough imo.

DitaVonPeas · 21/12/2018 14:31

Yeah, but there are loads of parents and toddler around. Not so many electric cars...

MrMeSeeks · 21/12/2018 14:32

Yabu, but you don’t care so i don’t see the point of the thread unless its to get a pat on the back or to wind posters up.

LordPickle · 21/12/2018 14:33

Of course YWNBU! According to Mumsnet, it's absurd to expect P&C spaces to only be for parents with children, so by that logic, of course you can park your car in the electric car spaces. And anyone who disagrees is wrong. Wink

Dirtygirtyisthirty · 21/12/2018 14:34

Ooooh a tasty bit of coal for Christmas! 😋

I don't actually know if I got away with it...might get a big fat fine in the post in the new year

Funny thing is I'm usually very law abiding, but I'm also not one to get worked up about P&C spaces either 🤷🏻‍♀️

YABVU.

Janedoe5000 · 21/12/2018 14:35

As long as you found yourself a parking space everyone else can whistle, right?

Moominfan · 21/12/2018 14:37

Op why are you asking? Seems your not fussed either ways

BishopBrennansArse · 21/12/2018 14:37

YWBU

kenandbarbie · 21/12/2018 14:39

I'd say not, not enough electric cars yet to need all the spaces.

redandyellowandpinkandgreen99 · 21/12/2018 14:39

Bet you'd have had a meltdown if someone had parked in a childspace with no babies or children in the car.

You are OBVIOUSLY being unreasonable, and are coming across as an entitled pratt!

Avegemitesandwich · 21/12/2018 14:40

The analogy is the same, OP is blocking someone from refuelling be that petrol or electricity.

No she isn't, she said only a quarter of them were full.

Dirtygirtyisthirty · 21/12/2018 14:43

Not prone to meltdowns

As a PP said, there just aren't enough electric cars yet. If there was only one space left I wouldn't have parked there

Puggles123 · 21/12/2018 14:45

YABU, but at this time of year people seem to do what they want in car parks anyway! A lady earlier in town parked in a child and parent space as she had her dog with her...which she left in the car anyway.

inneedahome · 21/12/2018 14:46

lol there's not enough electric cars to make use of the spaces, grow up people.

YANBU just don't make it a habit.

SirGawain · 21/12/2018 14:47

YABU. You can’t just pick and choose the rules that suit you,

redandyellowandpinkandgreen99 · 21/12/2018 14:53

@inneedahome

'grow up!'

Do bore off.

People who think differently to you are childish? YOU are the one who needs to grow up. Hmm

So WHAT if most of the spaces were empty?

That is completely irrelevant. You're not meant to park there!

You can spot the entitled twats on here.

went to do a full supermarket shop, and every other git had the same plan as me.

Going out on the Friday - 4 days before Christmas - and acting sooooooo shocked that there are no parking spaces!

Pathetic,

veggiepigsinpastryblankets · 21/12/2018 14:56

The supermarket were probably told to put in x number of vehicle charging points as a planning condition, or they had funding for it, or head office are doing some sort of initiative to tick a box on a "cares about the environment" form. They know full well that electric vehicle take up is not yet high enough that all those spaces will be used at once even in the Christmas rush. They would probably much prefer you to park in one of them, blocking precisely no one, than to drive off and do your shopping somewhere else.

It's not really the same as parking in front of a petrol pump but actually at my local petrol station, where the pumps are literally never all in use at once, people do sometimes do that to nip into the shop and it's never occurred to me to be annoyed by it.

Dirtygirtyisthirty · 21/12/2018 15:01

@redandyellowandpinkandgreen99 no I wasn't shocked, I was just acknowledging that everyone else was doing the same thing

It's ok

It's not your fault

OP posts:
SweetNorthernRose · 21/12/2018 15:07

Who drives an electric car to the shops with not enough charge to get home though?! YWNBU.

DitaVonPeas · 21/12/2018 15:14

To be fair sweet, if the shops are more than walking distance you probably would need to charge your electric car once you got there... Lol.

Fashionista101 · 21/12/2018 15:25

I do this all the time at my supermarket, they're the closest and never used, bet I've actually only ever seen 2 used.

Soubriquet · 21/12/2018 15:33

YABU BUT I understand

I probably would have done the same thing

It’s stressful trying to find a place to park without a screaming toddler in the back

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/12/2018 15:36

were there no other spaces or no other spaces near the shop? TBH with a toddler Id park in one just to hurry to hell up out of there.
