To ask about your third labour?

It seems everyone I talk too has a horror story about their third labour. Either going overdue, needing inducing, long labours or horrific births Confused
My first 2 were quite straight forward, 2 days late and 5 hours from first pain for my first and 3 days early with just over an hour from first pain for my second.
I'm expecting my third any time now and I wasn't worried at all before but is it really going to be that awful?!

OP posts:
Orlande · 21/12/2018 13:47

My 3rd was my best, quickest (8 hours), no tears, very painful though.
My first two were 24+ hour back to back nightmares though...

Santaispackinghissleigh · 21/12/2018 13:47

Third was 2 hours. Same as the second and fourth coincidently!!

ohreallyohreallyoh · 21/12/2018 13:49

I had two long labours 70-odd hours and 24 hours. I felt cheated with the third one which lasted less than 3 hours from waters breaking! Straightforward and quick for me.

SasBel · 21/12/2018 13:51

Easy, very fast. After pains were a bugger though, midwife said my body knew what it was doing, I stopped bleeding after 4 days.

Pissedoffdotcom · 21/12/2018 13:54

Longest overdue (13 days) but easiest labour. No tears (tore with first two), faster recovery. Labour itself was on par with the second time wise

Mamabearx4 · 21/12/2018 13:54

My 3rd was fast midwife wasnt ready, if she hadnt goy stuck im pretty sure i would have had her in the car.most painful too x

DelphiniumBlue · 21/12/2018 13:58

1 st and 3rd were both 4 hours..3 rd birth was slightly easier, but I was upright, at home and knew what to expect.
2nd was faster, slightly too fast tbh.

Catheric · 21/12/2018 13:58

My first two were quick and easy, DS1 2 hours, DS2 1 hour, DD1 was an unplanned homebirth because she was so quick (11 minutes active labour) and DD2 was a planned homebirth but a bit longer (half an hour active labour, midwife made it with 8 minutes to spare). I had heard 3rd births were terrible but it really wasn’t, unless you count her nearly being born in a toilet but her brothers think that’s the most hilarious thing ever..

PotteringAlong · 21/12/2018 14:00

9 minutes of active labour for my third. I was induced. But the earliest any one of my 3 were born was 41+5 Grin

Afterpains, which hadn’t worried me for the other 2, were horrific.

malvinandhobbes · 21/12/2018 14:01

Third labour wasn't that different from the first two and she came pretty close to the due date. (first was late, second was early).

Labour it was just as fast as the other two (about 5 hours total from realising I was in labour). I tore exactly the same amount with all three.

I was rather disappointed because it was a home birth, in the pool, and I'd done hypnobirthing and thought I would birth calmly like a cat the third time. The labour pain and duration was just the same, but I was happy to be home after.

WoodBurnerBabe · 21/12/2018 14:01

My third was induced as she was 13 days over, but one tiny sniff at the oxytocin was enough and she was born 45 minutes after first contraction. 4 hours later I was at home on my sofa eating Indian takeaway. Was a really nice birth experience

ErictheGuineaPig · 21/12/2018 14:02

Easiest labour for me. Not particularly fast but that was good as it felt calmer. No tears either. I was about 5 days overdue, a bit more than the others but not much.

goose1964 · 21/12/2018 14:09

I was induced on all 3. 9.30 am told t was last chance or section next day. 12.30 pains start, 1 pm need pain relief 1.20 7 cm dilated1.40 holding baby. It was fast and painful, my second was my easiest as I had no pain at all.

Littlebluebird123 · 21/12/2018 14:09

My third was quicker than my first two. They were all progressively quicker. I nearly had her in the car park!
But I knew what I was doing, I felt much more in control etc. I did go in shock after but the mw said it was probably due to length of labour and only just getting in the room rather than anything else. Labour from first twinge to birth was 1 1/2 hours. And we'd had to drop the older two off at mil beforehand then had a 20 min drive to hospital, so was a little stressful.
After pains were stronger but with my fourth it was definitely worse. And my first couple of periods after were painful too before settling down.

SweetheartNeckline · 21/12/2018 14:10

My second labour was perfect, but my third was ok too. My baby was back-to-back which was painful but no tears or anything and home in 12 hours (would have been 6 but baby needed heart murmur rechecking).

Meralia · 21/12/2018 14:11

After 2 vaginal births, I ended up having a c section with my third. I was looking forward to a straight forward third birth, but it wasn’t the case. Induced, then failed to progress. There was a 14 year gap though between my 2nd and 3rd child.

Good luck.

Member984815 · 21/12/2018 14:11

I went a week early with my third , no horror story here , she was born back to back so she came out face up but didn't cause any massive tears

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/12/2018 14:12

Mine was easy and fast except it was so fast it turned into an unplanned home birth.

Crackedvase · 21/12/2018 14:14

9 mins active labour with third, easy peasy. The after pains where bloody hellish tho, I was sweating buckets with the pain!

feelingverylazytoday · 21/12/2018 14:14

Lasted 2 hours, only pushed once, no stitches or tears. I was bathed, dressed and downstairs an hour later.

RolandDeschainsGilly · 21/12/2018 14:15

3rd was my favourite (out of 4). 1hr 40mins from start to finish.

WildCherryBlossom · 21/12/2018 14:21

All mine were overdue by close to two weeks, so nothing unexpected there. 3rd was shortest labour (around 6 hours - vast improvement on 1st at 24 hours). Contractions light enough initially. Went to see DC2 in a nursery performance, arranged collection and care for older DC. Off to hospital in a calm and collected fashion where things sped up and baby born mid-afternoon. Quite a bit bigger than older siblings but no tearing.

No-one ever passes on the dull uneventful birth stories. Horror stories get repeated and repeated but are far less frequent than the straightforward births.

Best of luck OP x

Auntiepatricia · 21/12/2018 14:25

Worst. Best was 2nd, then 4th, then 1st but 3rd was both the most difficult labour and awkward child! All my friends with 4 kids say their #3 child is a doozer too!😂😂😂 Mine is an utter nut, leaves us speechless with her uniqueness every day, and oh my god the crying and drama. She runs the family.

Gatehouse77 · 21/12/2018 14:25

2.5 hours here and might have been sooner if I'd been more willing!

Bishalisha · 21/12/2018 14:27

My third shot out of me like a bat out of hell. One minute I was fine and calm, breathing, next minute I’m screaming and her head is coming out. Planned home birth thankfully. Midwife delivering just about made it but the midwife with the gas and air didn’t arrive until 20 minutes later 😱
