To ask if this is the norm for offices?

I work a 9-5 Monday - Friday Office job in the public sector. In April the days fall as below. Does that mean we have the Friday-Monday off inclusive?

To ask if this is the norm for offices?

Yes as they are both Bank Holidays.

MacarenaFerreiro · 21/12/2018 11:18

Good Friday and Easter Monday are always bank holidays....

TokyoSushi · 21/12/2018 11:19

If the office usually is off/closed on bank holidays then yes.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 21/12/2018 11:19

Are you asking if you get good Friday and Easter Monday off? Therefore making it a 4 day weekend?
If you don't work bank holidays then yes that's how it tends to work.

santababyconvertible · 21/12/2018 11:24

Thanks all, the 23rd is a working day though isn't it.

I'd check - you may also get the Tuesday off. I used to when I worked for the council.

BarbaraofSevillle · 21/12/2018 11:29

Have you not been working very long? It is the norm for public sector offices to be closed on bank holidays.

However, for a long time, we took the Monday and Tuesday as holiday and Good Friday was a normal working day. And then it changed. I can't remember why we worked the Monday Tuesday or why we changed to a more conventional Friday Monday though.

Is this the 'get 18 days off work for 9 days AL' by joining up the Easter and May Day Bank Holidays thing?

BarbaraofSevillle · 21/12/2018 11:29

But yes, check, because there can be variations.

Littlebluebird123 · 21/12/2018 11:31

And also bear in mind that lots of people want that time off as schools will be closed so you can ask but not get it as your office may have a policy if only a certain amount of people off.

santababyconvertible · 21/12/2018 11:33

Well I have children who are off in school hols too so I am one of them I suppose. I know that it works differently depending on where you are , I will ask my line manager

Check - I don’t get good Friday but get the Monday and Tuesday

PoutySprout · 21/12/2018 11:38

There is always a long weekend for Easter.
