...to return work Christmas gift

Noodella18 · 21/12/2018 09:25

Given an expensive hamper from work for Christmas (very lucky as it's been a tough year for them (small business) and I know lots of people don't get anything at all from their work.)

Hamper is from large department store. WIBU to return it and use the store credit for something that won't make us fat? I don't have the receipt, so is it even possible?

NOTHING makes you 'fat' if you eat it in small amounts.

YABU.

PositivelyPERF · 21/12/2018 21:24

FFS! I can’t believe people are frothing because the OP wants to use an unwanted gift to get something for her baby!

UnderMajorDomoMinor · 22/12/2018 10:29

This is a very, very weird thread. Glad it’s worked out OP.

@kikidelivers ”fact” 😂

Relaxitsonlyababy · 22/12/2018 17:39

You’re about to have baby. Relax and treat yourself. The last thing on your mind after birth will be weight loss at least in the first month or so.

Regift it if you really don’t want it, but it’s a very lovely gift at a busy and stressful time. You might find it’s a godsend esp if you land up in hospital longer than expected. (Depending what’s in it of course)

Most store won’t return a hamper. Currently 38weeks pregnant myself and a hamper of lovely things would be greatly appreciated in this household.

Vivianebrezilletbrooks · 22/12/2018 17:53

Shops don't let you return food gifts, receipt or not.
Unless they treat you like crap where you work I'd not be thinking about returning it.
I got a birthday gift one year of fancy expensive toiletries from the bosses in a place where I'd once worked and one of the two bosses in particular was horrible. She presented it to me and I've used nearly all of it up now but it never did sit right with me. I could understand if that was another reason behind why you want to return it.

Vivianebrezilletbrooks · 22/12/2018 17:57

Don't even start me on the calories/fat content in Christmas food. No traffic light labelling on any of the food I've seen as calories don't exsist at Christmas..as if.
Is it any wonder Weight Watchers do so well in January. Hmm
Fair point if you don't want it due to that also.

angelfacecuti75 · 22/12/2018 17:58

Give it to a foodbank or local charity or regift some of it and save yourself some money that way. Use extra money saved on pressies to buy urself a small treat.

Fuglywitch · 22/12/2018 18:21

Keep a few bits you fancy and give the rest to a food bank. I've been given 3 tins of quality streets and the kids, were given a bag full of chocolate. Gave 90% of it to the food bank. Don't need this much chocolate.

FaveNumberIs2 · 22/12/2018 18:40

How rude!

Noodella18 · 22/12/2018 19:00

@mixedmaritalarts haha that’s hilarious! Balanced reporting as ever from the Sun.

Sadly I think this means I’ll have to take down this thread, as fun as it was - a little too outing now it’s linked in the press. Thanks all for the comments and well wishes!

@Noodella18 It's great that you can swap the hamper for something you'll find more useful.

But remember to get a treat for yourself. As PPs, being a mother is not the same thing as being a martyr. Don't go that way, it's not healthy for you or your child or your relationship.

MummyofTw0 · 22/12/2018 22:32

I would love a hamper.
To me that’s like the perfect Xmas gift

Nineja · 22/12/2018 22:36

How often per week do you and partner go out (evenings and weekends) separately? We've an 11yo daughter and her mum is hardly at home. Fair enough if she didn't want to spend time with me but is it normal / acceptable for a parent to spend so little time with their child? Our daughter is shot btw.

I'd appreciate your feedback.

FredFlinstoneMadeOfBones · 22/12/2018 22:39

Of course YANBU what an odd thing for people to get annoyed by. OP can appreciate the gesture from her employers but exchange the gift for something she'll actually use. It's not like they'll know so won't be hurt/offended.

Pashal2 · 22/12/2018 23:21

Can you explain what a hamper is in this context. A hamper that I know is something to put soiled clothing in before laundry day.🙄

PositivelyPERF · 23/12/2018 00:03

Nineja It would be better if you started your own thread, so you can get advice.

Pashal2 Christmas hampers are baskets 🧺 that contain luxury foods, treats and drinks, which can be fancy sparkling drinks or wine.

Yes it’s fine to try and return it. Some people put on weight very easily and others like to eat healthily. Try for store credit just explain to them. It’s fair enough.

The4thSandersonSister · 23/12/2018 08:12

Best ask any likely gift givers to include the receipt 🧾 in case you deem any further gifts lacking. Maybe just accept the gift in the spirit it was given, and if you find the items unsuitable then offer them to any guests you may have over the holidays.

WaterOffaDucksCrack · 23/12/2018 10:15

Thankfully it all stopped when she got dementia. I think that comment is 100 times worse than returning a hamper! To be thankful for a family member having a horrendus, progressive, incurable illness just so you don't have the inconvenience of not knowing what to do with a bloody hamper!

ChasedByBees · 23/12/2018 10:24

People are funny on this thread. Nothing wrong with returning an unwanted gift to a store, it’s not like your boss is going to come round and want to see the chocolate proudly on display on a shelf.

The issue is the store probably won’t take them back, but worth a try.

ChasedByBees · 23/12/2018 10:27

Pashal2 google ‘hamper’. Pretty much all the results are the food variety. Not need to roll eyes.

Dandygal1976 · 23/12/2018 13:36

You could eat all the food and turn the basket into a Moses basket or something... win win.

GabsAlot · 23/12/2018 18:11

remindw sme of rachel in friends-wheres the necklace i bought u -i returned it for something i really wanted-store credit

Pinklady1982 · 24/12/2018 21:43

Ooooh i love a hamper!! I always look at them with envy and hope I will get one for Christmas, but still waiting... I will be happy to take it off of your hand :)
