AIBU to think my doctor has got it wrong (with pics)

So, DS 21 months wakes up yesterday morning a bit rashy - nothing crazy - but I suffer with eczema and I thought it looked like that (dry/blotchy) called doc, got him in yesterday PM, by that time it was blistering but I still (first time parent naivety?) thought eczema and kind of guided the GP in that direction.
He prescribes mild steroid, emollient, bath additive.
By bed time last night little fella is beside himself and I send my mum a pic - she says defo chickenpox, no doubt, as does another experienced mum.
I do a bit of googling and it does indeed look like chickenpox to me.
Calls doc this morning, he says bring DS in to see senior doc this afternoon. Senior doc looks at him, says defo chickenpox, then changes mind and says cant be chickenpox as he has none on the back of his neck.
Tells me to carry on treating as eczema.
So I'm all a little bit torn now, because my instincts are telling me chickenpox, calamine and antihistamine, doc is telling me eczema, mild steroid and emollient.
Can you kind, and more experienced people out there tell me if this, in your opinion (I appreciate not medically trained) looks like chickenpox or not.
Thanks in advance.
x
PS - I also feel pretty shit because I put him though a Christmas party, and paraded him round as the star of Bethlehem yesterday and he must have been feeling rough. :(

Has he got any on his tummy/back?

Could be hand foot and mouth too

Sassypants82 · 20/12/2018 20:18

My DD has excema, doesnt look like that.. I'd say chicken pox. Poor little sausage. I hope he'll feel better soon.

abbsisspartacus · 20/12/2018 20:18

None on the back of his neck? Never heard that on a diagnosis before?

Does he have the same rash on his torso?

Redskyandrainbows67 · 20/12/2018 20:18

But no thought of all the people including pregnant mums you might have infected inadvertently if it was chicken pox?! What a lovely socially minded person you are

Haggisfish · 20/12/2018 20:19

Has he had mmr?

scrolling123 · 20/12/2018 20:19

@dementedpixie - non on his tummy or back.

SprogletsMum · 20/12/2018 20:19

I think it looks more like hand foot and mouth than chickenpox too.

abbsisspartacus · 20/12/2018 20:20

The arms look like eczema the legs not so much but either way piriton will help

UhUhUhDennis · 20/12/2018 20:20

I don't know as have no direct experience yet but to me that does look like chicken pox

dementedpixie · 20/12/2018 20:20

Redskyandrainbows67 she was told it wasn't chicken pox so no need for those comments

John4703 · 20/12/2018 20:21

I might get lots disagreeing on here but trust your GP. Your GP is a highly qualified Doctor who knows what to look for and who will have seen, and treated, chickenpox many times.
I have four children and the doctors were always right.

ShowOfHands · 20/12/2018 20:21

Have you got a closer picture of a blister? Round or oval in shape?

Chicken pox usually starts on the torso and spreads.

dementedpixie · 20/12/2018 20:21

If not on the tummy or back then I wouldn't think it was chicken pox. Hand foot and mouth can spread up legs and into nappy area

scrolling123 · 20/12/2018 20:21

@Haggisfish - all up to date on his jabs x
@Redskyandrainbows67 - as soon as I thought it could be, I let everyone know, also pre warned the doctors. Its a shame we dont know exactly what bugs and illnesses we carry round every day isnt it?

OP posts:
Oysterbabe · 20/12/2018 20:21

I don't think that's chicken pox.

Haggisfish · 20/12/2018 20:21

If chicken pox, there should be really obvious spots appearing, and then ‘popping’ to become red. Ime calamine was shite. Much much better new mousse and gel available-virasoothe and another one that removes itch almost instantly.

ThisIsWhatItSoundsLike · 20/12/2018 20:22

Eczema herpeticum possibly does he have eczema ?
It needs treating if so ring for out of hours gp appointment. If it is he needs admitting for iv's

dementedpixie · 20/12/2018 20:22

GPs aren't always right. One diagnosed my ds with eczema when it was actually shingles!

Haggisfish · 20/12/2018 20:22

And chickenpox is most contagious for two weeks before slots appear, so don’t fret too much about that.

@Redskyandrainbows67 and you know this how? Are you able to read someone's mind over the internet? Get off your high horse.

OP - I think it's pretty unusual not to have any spots on the torso with chicken pox. It also doesn't look blistery enough to me. I'd be surprised if it was that tbh. You can give an antihistamine to help with the itchiness either way though.

dementedpixie · 20/12/2018 20:25

This is incorrect - they are contagious for 1-2 days before chicken pox spots appear not 2 weeks

scrolling123 · 20/12/2018 20:25

I feel like its come on far too fast as hard to be eczema.
