AIBU to think my doctor has got it wrong (with pics)

So, DS 21 months wakes up yesterday morning a bit rashy - nothing crazy - but I suffer with eczema and I thought it looked like that (dry/blotchy) called doc, got him in yesterday PM, by that time it was blistering but I still (first time parent naivety?) thought eczema and kind of guided the GP in that direction.
He prescribes mild steroid, emollient, bath additive.
By bed time last night little fella is beside himself and I send my mum a pic - she says defo chickenpox, no doubt, as does another experienced mum.
I do a bit of googling and it does indeed look like chickenpox to me.
Calls doc this morning, he says bring DS in to see senior doc this afternoon. Senior doc looks at him, says defo chickenpox, then changes mind and says cant be chickenpox as he has none on the back of his neck.
Tells me to carry on treating as eczema.
So I'm all a little bit torn now, because my instincts are telling me chickenpox, calamine and antihistamine, doc is telling me eczema, mild steroid and emollient.
Can you kind, and more experienced people out there tell me if this, in your opinion (I appreciate not medically trained) looks like chickenpox or not.
Thanks in advance.
x
PS - I also feel pretty shit because I put him though a Christmas party, and paraded him round as the star of Bethlehem yesterday and he must have been feeling rough. :(

Doesn't look like chicken pox and hand foot and mouth blisters are oval shaped so doesn't seem to fit that either.

Datedandold · 20/12/2018 20:25

Did the doctor consider scabies? I got it once (don’t ask) and it looked exactly like that.

Cornettoninja · 20/12/2018 20:25

Jesus redsky wind your neck in, ‘infected inadvertently’ is an exact quote from your own post.

Unless you’re going to share where you learnt your supersonic psychic skills I feel safe saying that you’ve nothing really to add to this particular thread.

Boatsnack3 · 20/12/2018 20:26

It looks the same as my dds eczema I thought it was measles at first even though she was vaccinated.

ThisIsWhatItSoundsLike · 20/12/2018 20:26

Does look like eczema herpeticum OP take him back to GP

Dextrodependant · 20/12/2018 20:26

Looks like chicken pox to me. Obviously I am not a doctor though.

PuppyMonkey · 20/12/2018 20:26

Doesn’t look like chicken pox or eczema to me. Confused

It looks very dark red spots, is that maybe just the light? Presume you have done the glass test thingy..

7salmonswimming · 20/12/2018 20:26

That doesn’t look like eczema to me...

CharlieandLolaCat · 20/12/2018 20:26

Literally the same as what my son has now and I his is eczema.

Yambabe · 20/12/2018 20:27

Doesn't look like chicken pox to me, the spots aren't blistery enough.

Wilfredohoney · 20/12/2018 20:28

Doesn't look at all like chickenpox to me

Soubriquet · 20/12/2018 20:28

looks a bit poxy to me

This was two. Dd had hers mostly on her belly and back

Poor ds had them everywhere and even had them badly infected around his mouth

Bacardi101 · 20/12/2018 20:29

My DDs have both just had chicken pox and it didn’t look like that if I’m honest

Witchend · 20/12/2018 20:29

Doesn't look like chickenpox to me either.

YellowStickies · 20/12/2018 20:29

Poor wee mite, hope you figure it out x

MovingNextYearHopefully · 20/12/2018 20:30

I don't think its eczema tbh. Maybe see another GP or ask a pharmacist.

Karlkennedyslovechild · 20/12/2018 20:30

I am medically trained and I’m not convinced it’s chicken pox. Eczema herpeticum is a good thought. I think it’s worth getting seen again tomorrow.

scrolling123 · 20/12/2018 20:31

Ok so what I'm taking from this is that its not clear whether its one or the other or indeed something entirely different.
Well he is fast asleep now covered in aqueous and calamine and seems settled, so I think my best bet is to re-asses in the morning.
If its improving keep doing what I'm doing, if its not then back to the docs.
@soubriquet - bless his poor mouth!
Thank you x

My kids' eczema has looked like this on occasion but not quite as bad. If it is eczema I'm wondering if he's had a reaction to something. It looks a bit too rashy to be chicken pox, which i think is more well defined blisters.

MynameisJune · 20/12/2018 20:35

Looks like DD’s hand, foot and mouth to me. Her spots weren’t oval at all but Doc diagnosed hf&m and it had been going around nursery.

Purpleartichoke · 20/12/2018 20:35

Did you change soap or laundry detergent or any product?

ISdads · 20/12/2018 20:36

Doesn't look like cpx

Don't know enough about eczema to comment

How is he in himself eg temperature, crying, unwell?

scrolling123 · 20/12/2018 20:37

@Purpleartichoke - not changed anything, I dont generally because I have sensitive skin

OP posts:
scrolling123 · 20/12/2018 20:38

@isdads - he has been a bit under the weather, slight temp but nothing raging.

Any new food or drink?

My DD would be like that after milk.
