To go to asda at 7am on Saturday?

PumpkinPie2016 · 20/12/2018 18:55

I am working until tomorrow and so I need to do the last bit of the food shop on Saturday - I don't need loads but veg and a few other bits plus some normal household stuff.

It's obviously going to be busy and my local asda opens at 7am. So, my plan was to get there for 7am, do my shop and hopefully get out before it gets too manic.

I happened to mention it to someone who was Xmas Shock and Xmas Confused that I would consider getting up so early on Saturday.

So, AIBU to think this is a good idea and that I won't be the only one who does this?

When are you finishing your food shop?

My plan is to go late Christmas Eve. The supermarkets here are usually pretty empty by then.

TheBaltictriangle · 22/12/2018 11:43

Done an online order and they didn't have any parsnips. I have decided that parsnips aren't essential to avoid the carnage that is a supermarket the Sat before Christmas.

CheeseAndBeans · 22/12/2018 11:50

I was at our Asda at 7.30 this morning and it was packed already! I always do food shop on a Saturday morning anyway and needed the extra Christmas bits. So thought I'd beat the crowds... people were queuing to get in the car park when I left at 9.

Had to take 2 DDs as OH is working up until Xmas day now. Hell on earth.
Each year I say I'll do an online shop but never do... next year!

Mamia15 · 22/12/2018 11:51

Went this morning at 10am - the whole thing was painless and took only 45 mins. No queues and plenty in stock.

Aldi rocks.

Darkestnight · 22/12/2018 11:55

Feel sorry for us retail staff who have to deal with this carnage.

GreatWesternValkyrie · 22/12/2018 12:00

Delivery coming tomorrow so my only foray to a supermarket will be picking up an M&S order tonight. It’s the first time I’ve ordered Christmas food from them and I’ve heard the queues can be huge, so I deliberately picked that last slot of the night in the hope of calm festive civility [santa]

Fluffyears · 22/12/2018 12:08

I never shop
Online as I always end up eithvrap sell buy dates or a packet of meat I wouldn’t have picked as it looks crap. I am in Scotland so will be going to M&S at 7 tomorrow Fitbit opening. I went last night to get the majority at Asda but for the few luxury things plus I will head out early. My mum and I used to go to Asda for opening have breakfast then shop and home by 8.30. It was more to ensure we had a parking space. There was a shopping centre next door so we were loading up the food shop one day and a twat in a beemer started flashing his light and beeping then screamed out the window ‘hurry up you daft slag!’ I assume the gentleman wished to have my parking space. I smiled waved and me and my mum walked away into
the shopping centre.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 22/12/2018 12:12

I was out of Asda by 7.30 this morning just as it was starting to fill up.

No more shopping now until after Christmas.

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 22/12/2018 12:32

@PeapodBurgundy did you leave DS alone?

PabloTescobar · 22/12/2018 12:33

I always do my weekend shopping at that sort of time! I'm totally a lark and I like to get it out of the way whilst it's quiet.

stinkarella123 · 22/12/2018 12:33

I can't decide whether to go tomorrow at 11am or first thing Monday morning, those are the only times I can go due to work. I'm cooking a Christmas dinner at work this year and have already bought most things just need a few fresh bits Xmas Smile

BarbaraofSevillle · 22/12/2018 12:58

stink 11 am tomorrow would be madness. The supermarkets will have browsing time for 30-60 mins before the official opening times so by the time they open there will be queues of full trolleys at the checkouts and it will be like that most of the day.

As long as your first thing Monday is before about 8 am, I would have thought that it would be fairly quiet.

I should add that DP was home with DS, I didn't leave him home alone!

PeapodBurgundy · 22/12/2018 13:04

@JamieFraser food for that roast dinner, the buffet with the extended family for boxing day as too many of us to get around my table, and usual groceries here. Just because we're all trying to find a quiet slot to go, doesn't mean we're buying enough food to feed the people we're buying 5 times over Hmm

coolcahuna · 22/12/2018 13:05

I did mine today at 9am in tesco and it was fine!

PeapodBurgundy · 22/12/2018 13:12

@SoyDora Thank you Xmas Smile

@WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream No, I realised what it sounded like and clarified in a second comment, DP was home, but DS has had a bit of jealousy at bedtimes since DD arrived (he's only two, DD is just turned 4 months) so I do bedtimes with him alone when I get the opportunity so he feels a little less pushed out.

divadee · 22/12/2018 13:17

We arrived at Sainsbury's at 9.30 ish this morning. Found a parking spot straight away and was all done and driving away by 11am. £227 lighter but we are feeding 8 people for 3 days.

Skatersbeskating · 22/12/2018 13:20

I put DD in holiday club yesterday. I went shopping after work then picked her up. No dramas Wink

Eloisedublin123 · 22/12/2018 13:23

Was in our local supermarket at 8am today Grin

TheNativityDonkey · 22/12/2018 13:37

I woke up at 4.45am so was in my local Tesco by 5.30.
Dates on food was terrible. Did get a few bits. I then went across to Asda at 6am. I did get veg and a few other bits but the dates again were awful.
So I went to Sainsbury's. Much much better fresher veg and much better post Xmas dates on food.
Was back home by 7.15am. I went back to bed and got up at 11.30.
I must remember next year ro go to my local Sainsburys first!!

TheNativityDonkey · 22/12/2018 13:38

Firgit to say I had to go today as working tomorrow and Monday 12 hour shifts!!

LakieLady · 22/12/2018 13:56

According to our local online forum, Tesco was already ramped at 7.30 am.

Not that I'd have bothered going at that time, I'd have still been sleeping off last night's huge meal and wine if the bin men hadn't come and made a racket with the recycling at 7.20 this morning. Noisy bastards.

I'm refusing to do it all on my own again this year, so am hoping that DP will be up early enough to get into town for the 9.30 browse, 10.00 shop tomorrow. Failing that, it'll be bread and milk from the corner shop and defrost the joint of beef we've got in the freezer for Xmas lunch.

MerryBee · 07/12/2024 06:15

I'm shopping at Asda this morning at 7.30 because I've got a Xmas parcel delivery coming and I've got to get back never know what time they'll arrive oh dear usually get up later
