To go to asda at 7am on Saturday?

I am working until tomorrow and so I need to do the last bit of the food shop on Saturday - I don't need loads but veg and a few other bits plus some normal household stuff.

It's obviously going to be busy and my local asda opens at 7am. So, my plan was to get there for 7am, do my shop and hopefully get out before it gets too manic.

I happened to mention it to someone who was Xmas Shock and Xmas Confused that I would consider getting up so early on Saturday.

So, AIBU to think this is a good idea and that I won't be the only one who does this?

When are you finishing your food shop?

Next year, book a click and collect slot sometime in November. My Asda slot is 2-3 on Sunday afternoon, no charge and don't have to enter the shop at all

SoyDora · 20/12/2018 19:41

We don’t need to get too much from the supermarket though as the meat/veg/cheese is being picked up from the farm shop on Sunday so hopefully DH will be in and out pretty quickly.

callymarch · 20/12/2018 19:43

I quite often go to the supermarket at 7am, i'm up at 6am every day to take my daughter to work and do a shop on the way back.

PumpkinPie2016 · 20/12/2018 19:45

Glad it's not just me Xmas Grin I'm not expecting it to be very quiet but hopefully it will be more bareable than later in the day.

Meat is coming from butcher and I already have smoked salmon, blinis, Christmas pud and brandy sauce. Sent DH to do a booze shop the other day. So not really much left to do.

Can't wait to get it done and be all prepared!

My dad used to be a postman, he used to go do the Xmas shop and come back and unpack before going in for his 5am start.

tryinganewname · 20/12/2018 19:47

I also used to work at M&S - the queue would wrap around the building at 5.30am on Christmas Eve. I loved it.

Fatted · 20/12/2018 19:51

I always used to do my shopping at 7am on a Saturday morning pre-kids. I'd drop DH off at work and then do the shopping. When I was working shifts, I'd pop in at 11pm on my way home sometimes.

Our local Asda is 24 hours. They are busy stocking up ready for the Saturday rush so by 7am ours is fully stocked, everything's fresh and neat.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 20/12/2018 19:51

Lots.of people do theirs at 2 am. This year our Asda is opening at 1 minute after midnight on Xmas eve so plenty of time fir last minute shoppers

MsVestibule · 20/12/2018 19:54

That was my thought when I was 8 months pregnant once and couldn't sleep. It was bloody murder, EVERYBODY had the same idea as me.

Upsy1981 · 20/12/2018 20:01

I've done it before at this time of year, if not earlier than 7am and its always been a really nice atmosphere with the other shoppers.

Bobswife39 · 20/12/2018 20:23

I did this last year OP and everybody had the same idea as me. I'd be more tempted to go about 8 or 9pm, they'll be closing at 10pm for Sunday trading

Gardai · 20/12/2018 20:27

I’m going Christmas Eve, as late as I can, I’m living dangerously !

Boatsnack3 · 20/12/2018 20:31

I work in a 24hour supermarket I am night shift all weekend and can guarantee the shop will be busy all night long. The homeshopping team will be in at 4am emptying every shelf we've filled too. Get in as early as you can Grin

Upsy1981 · 22/12/2018 09:59

I was at the supermarket for 6am today. Was lovely! A thoroughly pleasant experience.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 22/12/2018 10:00

I'm going at 6am on Monday!

DisposableNN · 22/12/2018 10:04

I went to Aldi at 8am and it was heaving! As I drove by Sainsbury the cars were queuing out of the car park and onto the roundabout and dual carriageway.

Birdsgottafly · 22/12/2018 10:07

I went to Asda last night around midnight. It was Saturday morning busy.

VioletCharlotte · 22/12/2018 10:23

Did you go? I went at 7 and got all mine done. There was a fair few people in there, even at that time. But mainly women people by themselves, rather than hoards of screaming kids whole families which made a huge difference. So much more civilised.

PumpkinPie2016 · 22/12/2018 10:29

I did indeed Violet glad you got there too!

There were, as you say, quite a few in but mostly lone women. It was calm and quiet - no fed up kids (I left mine with DH), no people who insist on talking in the ailse.

I got everything I needed and only waited a few minutes at the checkout. Done and dusted and back home by 8.15am!

As I was leaving though the car park was filling up rapidly!!

Now it's mission clean the houseXmas Grin

I once did my Christmas food shop at 2am in a 24 hr Tesco. It was heaven.
So no yanbu.

CrazyBaubles · 22/12/2018 10:37

I think it was a good idea! I did mine on my way home from seeing friends after work. Walked in to the shop at 9:10pm, left at 9:45pm after queuing for a few mins. Most time taken by waiting for staff to unpack their delivery so I could get what I wanted.
Friends were also Hmm about me going to late. Ah well - if they want to handle the hell of Saturday afternoon shopping just before Christmas, good for them!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/12/2018 10:37

I got the vegetables yesterday. The turkey and ham will be delivered by the butcher later today and then we're sorted. I can't bear the siege mentality that some people seem to have about Christmas; there was a couple with TEN loaves of sliced bread in one of their TWO trolleys when I went into the supermarket yesterday.

Number12 · 22/12/2018 10:38

I was at m&s at 6 am this morning. I was gutted. It was RAMMED!!!!

HopeGarden · 22/12/2018 10:39

I don’t see why anyone would find it unreasonable to go grocery shopping at 7am, particularly this close to Christmas!

I went to the supermarket at about 10pm last night and it was quieter than at peak times but still really busy compared to 10pm at any other time of year.

All I need to do now in the grocery line is pick up some fresh bread and milk from the corner shop on Christmas Eve.

AromaticSpices · 22/12/2018 10:40

I was in Tesco last night at 10pm! You have to fit it in where you can and ideally avoid the crowds. Sod what anyone else thinks
