To go to asda at 7am on Saturday?

PumpkinPie2016 · 20/12/2018 18:55

I am working until tomorrow and so I need to do the last bit of the food shop on Saturday - I don't need loads but veg and a few other bits plus some normal household stuff.

It's obviously going to be busy and my local asda opens at 7am. So, my plan was to get there for 7am, do my shop and hopefully get out before it gets too manic.

I happened to mention it to someone who was Xmas Shock and Xmas Confused that I would consider getting up so early on Saturday.

So, AIBU to think this is a good idea and that I won't be the only one who does this?

When are you finishing your food shop?

Did mine at 6.30 this morning, it was lovely and quiet.

starzig · 22/12/2018 10:45

I done shopping at 5am before. Had a full trolley and them made me do it self scan.

fireplacetiles · 22/12/2018 10:45

Did the posh stuff in M and S yesterday morning at 9 when they opened, quite quiet and the rest in Aldi last night at 9pm, just me and the shelf stackers and one other lady! Bread in freezer, sorted!

TopBitchoftheWitches · 22/12/2018 10:47

I was at the supermarket at 7am this morning. It was great, there were about 10 other people in there.
So quiet and civilised.

BrieAndChilli · 22/12/2018 10:54

I do mine at 6am on xmas eve!

PumpkinPie2016 · 22/12/2018 10:54

I can't understand the siege mentality either! My mum was behind a family who had 3 large shopping trolleys that were full to overflowing yesterday Xmas Shock Their bill came in at over £400 Xmas Shock

I do understand some people cater for a lot of people but I have 12 to cater for and have managed it with a butcher's order and one trolley!

Ha, I got to my local Asda at 6.10am on Thursday to do my big shop!

florriepeck · 22/12/2018 11:03

I was at Asda at 7am today, but lots of shelves were empty, or stocked with short shelf life stuff, eg bread and meat with 24 Dec date on.
This is a fairly regular thing in my local branch, so I think I'll be changing to another supermarket after Christmas.
Usually go to Aldi and top up with Asda, but will try Tesco for the top up.

Did mine last night at a ridiculous hour. Put DS to bed, fed DD to sleep and put her in the sling (pretty much assured of her sleeping until midnight which she did). Arrived at 10pm to a virtually empty Morrisons (it usually closes at 10pm), got the shop done and was on the last bus by 11.15 with the shopping loaded into the pram. Make it home just before midnight, DD woke as I was coming through the door. Perfectly timed and blissfully easy. I wish every shop was that simple.

PeapodBurgundy · 22/12/2018 11:06

I should add that DP was home with DS, I didn't leave him home alone!

NursieBernard · 22/12/2018 11:07

I did mine at 06:15 this morning and it was really busy Xmas Confused So glad its done now Xmas Smile

Hoppinggreen · 22/12/2018 11:10

When I’m doing xmas dinner (not this year) I book a 6.30 M&S pick up slot.
I then go home for a nap ( never happens)

daisypond · 22/12/2018 11:10

We haven't started our food shop, haven't even thought about it. There's days left yet. I'm leaving it to DH. I'm at work today, tomorrow, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so it's up to him.

BunsOfAnarchy · 22/12/2018 11:12

One year i actually did the whole xmas food shop at 1am in 24 hour tesco.
They were restocking shelves, no crowds and it was BLISS. Staff were helpful and happy.
Gonna go tonight at 11pm lol.

WhenLifeGivesYouLemonsx · 22/12/2018 11:13

I just went to Aldi at 8am (time that they open) and it was jam packed. The car park was completely full as they was already parked, waiting for Aldi to open! So it will probably still be jam packed.

augustusglupe · 22/12/2018 11:17

YANBU Me and DH always go out around 6.30am every 23rd Dec to essentially buy our whole Christmas food shopping. We pass the queues going into town as we’re...rather smugly... driving back home, mid morning. It’s the only way OP Smile

BatshitCrazyWoman · 22/12/2018 11:21

I was in Sainsburys at 7.30 this morning - lovely and quiet. I wasn't 'laying in for a siege' Hmm - I go to the supermarket once a week at the weekend every week. I'm away for a few days over the Christmas period, but still want milk and other bits and pieces.

ShotsFired · 22/12/2018 11:28

I popped to Lidl about 7pm last night. There were more teenagers hanging round outside looking 'ard, than there were shoppers inside.

Wild horses couldn't drag me to the shops this weekend.

BarbaraofSevillle · 22/12/2018 11:29

Perfectly sensible. I'm going at about 6 am on Monday. Early morning is best because it's quieter and the shops are usually fully stocked. I'll be back home for breakfast and possibly to go back to bed, by about 8 am at the latest.

I'm just glad that most people go at 'normal' times. I've always wondered why people go at busy times, when it's so busy and it takes hours to get in, round and out, queues, queues, queues, but thinking about it, I'm hugely grateful that they all make the sacrifice so I can do my shopping in relative peace.

Heatherjayne1972 · 22/12/2018 11:31

Was shopping at 7am today and our Tesco was really busy
So glad it’s over now

Unless you're in Scotland, be aware that you can't do that this year. Sunday shopping is going to be hell in the rest of the UK because of the shorter opening hours.

JamieFraser · 22/12/2018 11:33

What on earth are you all buying? It's one meal....a roast dinner. The seige mentality 😐

JamieFraser · 22/12/2018 11:34

Although I'm in Scotland with no opening hour restrictions....

BarbaraofSevillle · 22/12/2018 11:36

A question to people who go to shops at busy times, eg any time this weekend. Is that because it's the only time you can go, don't mind the crowds and the queues, or another reason?

I'd rather do without than go to Ikea or a shopping centre when you queue to get in, queue to park and fight the crowds, so don't understand why so many people put themselves through the ordeal. But as I said above, I'm massively greatful that 'everyone else' goes at busy times, so please feel free to carry on doing it your way.

honestlynotagain · 22/12/2018 11:38

I did it this morning at 6am with my 9 month old as we were already up. All the mother and baby spaces were taken (not another baby in sight) and it was packed by the time I was going through the checkout at 6 30. Apparently there was a queue at the door before opening!
