How to loosen straps on Joie Every Stage FX car seat??

Sorry to post here for traffic but this is really important.

We do not use our car much but desperately need help as we are taking our son out tomorrow.

We have the Joie Every Stage FX car seat and our 6wo son has barely been in it since coming home from hospital. Consequently the straps are now a little too tight for him but we cannot figure out how to loosen them!!

We have found the button under the lining at the front of the seat which you allegedly press while tugging the straps to loosen them, but nothing happens when you do this.

All videos online just show how to tighten the straps.

Can anyone explain?? As mentioned this is quite urgent as we need to take him out tomorrow in the car and have only just realised this is a problem for us.

Thanks

On ours you push the button and pull the actual strap fabric / webbing not the padded covering as it doesn't work if you pull the padding.

Hope this helps

Oh we tried that and still nothing :( Pulled as hard as I dared while pushing the button and nothing happened. Will try again though...

Check the actual straps aren’t caught at the back of the seat...had to take it out completely to sort it.

Thanks all.
Husband kept trying and eventually it worked!
Maybe you need to push the button at a certain angle!
Part of the problem is probably, as I said, that we just don't use the car that often so don't get the practice.
Feel like making a Youtube video showing how to loosen the straps now to help other desperate parents :p

I have the Joie Stages and the button to lengthen the straps is a nightmare. I have been using the seat for about a month now and still find it really, really awkward to press the button at the right angle.

If you join the car seat safety group on Facebook (it's massive) you'll see a thread where there is a known fault with Joie seats and loads of threads where people are asking how to loosen the straps. If it's really really hard it's probably got the fault and needs exchanging with Joie. Just a heads up.

raviolidreaming · 19/12/2018 19:13

That's really interesting, Dennis - thanks. Ours is still a fucking nightmare after a year!

UhUhUhDennis · 19/12/2018 19:16

Yeah have a look on that group I can't remember the exact name as I'm not on Facebook now but it's got thousands of members and is so helpful.

I have this seat & you have to pull the straps from the lower end benethe the padded bits, if you pull above it doesn’t move. Took me a while to figure it out!

mortifiedmama · 19/12/2018 19:42

Contact joie once you've returned from your trip. It's a known fault and they are pretty good at exchanging them.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 19/12/2018 19:45

Omg it isn’t just me- yes it’s a nightmare, trick seems to be pull one strap at a time as you press the button- but it’s crap

LassoOfTruth · 19/12/2018 19:50

I have this seat. It's tricky but to loosen the straps I find it works best to:

  1. Make sure the excess bit of strap at the foot isn't caught up/restricted by anything, even slightly
  2. Press the button and hold it down, tilting the pressure towards the seat a bit
  3. Put a finger right behind the top of the buckle, and pull/tilt the buckle towards you. It should come easily when it works - definitely takes practise!
BeautifulPossibilities · 19/12/2018 19:54

Those buttons on Joie seats are a pain in the arse!!

Pissedoffdotcom · 19/12/2018 19:58

Wiggle the button & pull the straps. That's how we have to do it. However did not know this was a known fault & will be contacting Joie!

Hiphopopotamous · 19/12/2018 20:35

Joie are always really helpful on the phone - I was out and got the car seat stuck in a weird position and the manual was at home. They talked me through which buttons to press to get it right - the lady was very patient with me not being able to find the right bits!

RogueV · 19/12/2018 20:37

This reminds me of the Morhercare car Seat thread. Does anybody else remember that?! I wonder what happened...
