smear test rant

I waited 9 weeks to be told there weren't enough cells for testing. So annoyed. Can't believe the lab is taking so long to even look at the test. Considering most of us get anxious over these tests a long wait isn't really helping to encourage women in having the test.

@FenellaMaxwellsPony I thought if results were slightly abnormal it was test again after a year.

Not according to the letter they sent me

I had a 6 week wait for them to tell me the same, not enough cells to test properky, so had to go again. Second time she had trouble (different nurse) because my cervix was so high, we couldn't get it to shift with position changes, she said if it comesback the same again I mayou have to be referred to another clinic where they have more tools available. Apparently my cervix was literally hiding

Came back ok that time though. I don't stress about these things though and i know how stretched our services are, so the wait didn't bother me.

Although if they are like my local practise you will still be hassled to have a smear anyway because, y'know, The System must be obeyed

I have cervical cancer, and one time, I needed to get some pain relief from the GP. I had a GP I hadn't seen before, so briefly explained that I had cervical cancer, and the treatment to date, and that I needed some pain relief. Anyway, as I was about to leave, she looked at her screen, and said "It says here you haven't had a smear test for a while. You need to book one."

I was gobsmacked, and stuttered, "But I already have cervical cancer." to which she replied, "Well, you should still book one."

I just mumbled something and left.
