AIBU to want to go on my own?

Some old schoolfriends of mine who I have known for the last 50 years have gone to stay in Australia with thieir son and ddil who are working there. These friends are renting a house and have invited me and another friend to go over and visit. This friend, X, is single and keen to go, as am I. However my dp would like to go too, although he is still working and cannot really afford it -t he fares, the living expenses, the entertainment and trips which we would no doubt want to do, are likely to be quite expensive. And really, I would prefer to go with X and have time to concentrate on the old school friends connection.

I'm likely to let X go on her own because I think it would be mean to go without dp. AIBU to want to go without him?

I think it's fine to go on your own.

I'm going to Australia next year without my partner as we can't really afford both of us going to Oz this time and the main reason for the trip is to meet my new baby nephew.

My partners fine about it now I've suggested he treat himself to a golf holiday next year whilst I'm away Smile

I came on here to say no, but actually if my DH went on a trip of a lifetime like that without me I'd be absolutely gutted.

I agree with veggie I'd be gutted if my dh went without me and I don't think I'd do that kind of trip without him, but I do understand you wanting to go and see your friends.
It's a tricky one.

Could he not come out later and you both return together? Best of both worlds and saves him paying out for the whole visit.
