@Ellisandra of course she wont. You, me and several on this thread have asked her to do so and pointed out the image cannot be altered in the way she describes.

I personally think she should be contacting the seller and issuing an apology. The OP has basically slated her products on this post and that could lead to others boycotting the seller thinking they are being racist and not allowing you to customise the skin tone.

None of what the OP has said is accurate, but it is the seller who could suffer loss of sales, whilst the op gets to sit behind a keyboard anonymously stirring up racisim where there isn't any. Sad

Ellisandra · 20/12/2018 09:14

It’s such a frustrating thread, to see in action the sheep mob getting outraged and taking some random on the internet at face value when 2 minutes of checking would tell them the truth Sad

There are REAL instances of racism that deserve people’s time.

vuripadexo · 20/12/2018 09:19

People need to understand that a lot of racial division online is being artificially generated. It's not that racism doesn't exist but that just because someone online calls you names and then says "oh and I'm black" doesn't mean they are.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/dec/17/russian-propagandists-targeted-african-americans-2016-election

Mumsnet is the UK's largest parenting forum. I promise you that in a few years it will come out that a lot of division stoked here is paid. As an actual black person, I can tell you that a lot of mumsnet "anti racists" don't actually seem black. There was a thread a few weeks ago about black hair that was clearly written by a white person pretending to be black.

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 20/12/2018 09:24

What do you mean by the division here is paid?

dollyknocker · 20/12/2018 09:24

YANBU.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 20/12/2018 09:25

See whilst the racial division being generated artificially annoys me it doesn't bother me as much as a small business being accused of being racist.

We all know that bad reviews and negative associations stick. It is much harder to recover after you have been perceived in a negative light. This poor women's products, business and name have been dragged through the mud on this thread.

How many people will just read the first few pages and think wow that's terrible I'll never use Zazzle or order from her. It would be nice of the Op to come back and explain she was talking crap rather than leave people believing this women is deliberately excluding skin tones.

Ellisandra · 20/12/2018 09:27

The depths of manipulation and the global consequences of it described in that article are shocking, @vuripadexo Angry

Sadly the mob would rather have 5 minutes of entertainment in their outrage and a bit of nice virtue signalling than actuall check out the truth of the OP’s post, or read a link like that.

Ellisandra · 20/12/2018 09:28

@dollyknocker - which part of the OP’s post do you not find unreasonable? Just to warn you, she lied.

Racecardriver · 20/12/2018 09:36

YABU for wording that so poorly, I thought that you were having a go because you couldn’t possible get a bag modelled by a white girl for a black girl.

YANBU to expect a persobalisable cartoon image to have a variety of skin tones.

vuripadexo · 20/12/2018 09:42

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree
What do you mean by the division here is paid?

Racial division alienates minorities and makes them feel isolated and disconnected from institutions. It also alienates working class white people because it makes them feel diversity is a zero sum game. (it's not!) Thus it's useful if you don't want people to vote or engage with politics. Russia paid both right wing organizations in the US to say racist things AND pro black organizations to say voting was worthless to try and suppress the black vote.

In the UK I guarantee you evidence will come out of the same stuff. I spend most of my time on black forums including some US ones. In the run up to the US midterms there suddenly appeared a tons of posters who posted hourly about how republicans and democrats were all the same and how democrats were pro illegal immigrant and anti black. It was obvious they were paid staff of some organization trying to suppress the black vote. Many posters knew they were fake but a lot of people fell for it.

In the UK the daily mail love to troll readers by finding fake instances of "political correctness gone mad" and reporting them as fact as a way to stir up outrage against "pc culture". They would LOVE this story . A woman Mum who probably makes t shirts on the side potentially being taken to COURT at christmas time for daring to make a t shirt with a white girl on it. Even though she makes lots of t shirts with black girls on them as well! Headline: They're making it illegal to be white.

Don't fall for it.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 20/12/2018 09:44

THE IMAGE CANNOT BE PERSONALISED.

Sorry Racecardriver I am not shouting at you but this is exactly what some of is on this thread have been saying. The OP is talking rubbish and now 80% of the thread believe there is a product on Zazzle that can be personalised which is deliberately excluding non white skin tones.

goldengummybear · 20/12/2018 09:46

Sites like eBay and Zazzle would drown if they had to manually approve - shop's products before uploading. They rely on users to report people selling offensive stuff eg the Xmas jumpers mocking Katie Price's son Harvey on Etsy and eBay.

Zazzle are right and it's up to you to contact the designer and request other skin tones rather than Zazzle to impose that rule. Yanbu to want a non-white girl on the bag

dollyknocker · 20/12/2018 10:06

@elisandra When I replied most of the thread wasn't showing! I haven't read the full responses yet...

Ellisandra · 20/12/2018 10:16

Short version for you @dollyknocker !

OP wanted to look virtuous on here by accusing zazzle of ONLY ALLOWING IMAGES OF WHITE GIRLS!!!! Specifically over a product where you could change all the clothing colours, but not the skin tone.

Only the actual truth, is that image isn’t customisable on ANY of the colour parts (clothing, as claimed by OP). And the seller has other African American image products. (Though not this particular image)

So, turns out that maybe Zazzle do allow images that aren’t white girls and this very seller happens to make some.

Which makes their response of “it’s a image upload, we can’t change it but hey, you could tweet the seller?” actually rather boringly reasonable, huh? Grin

WhippettyWeekend · 20/12/2018 11:50

vuripadexo I have no doubt your right. Twitter the tip of the iceberg. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/technology/2018/oct/17/vast-archive-of-tweets-reveals-work-of-trolls-backed-by-russia-and-iran

This thread has also taught me to always RTFT in future before jumping in making things worse/even more misleading

vuripadexo · 20/12/2018 19:41

WhippettyWeekend

Not a problem! Sorry if I came across as aggressive but if you are black you get very used to this online.

www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2017/03/21/520522240/the-emergence-of-the-white-troll-behind-a-black-face

It's awful because we need the internet to raise justice claims against wrongdoing on race issues. Including lack of representation! But a lot of the mumsnet posts are very suspect. They tend to ignore rather than engage with any dissenting posts and the stories they spout are always so so soooo daily mail friendly.

FWIW my 2 other BIPOC friends I chatted to felt that:

  1. zazzle should think about putting a step in their upload process that suggests diversifying content to encourage diverse products

  2. The OP's messages to zazzle are ridiculous and almost willfully so

  3. No non-troll would suggest these products are illegal. That's definitely serving an anti-black agenda.

  4. They'd prefer to buy from BLACK producers who are championing diversity rather than being an afterthought.

WhippettyWeekend · 21/12/2018 15:23

vuripadexo you came across as justifiably frustrated!

Thanks for the link - pretty horrifying.

Yeah I was thinking along the lines of point 2 when saying it might be good for Zazzle to look into changing its policies (when I thought the figure herself was customisable).

Regarding your point 4, I think some people aren’t trolls but are just a bit gauche. I can imagine my exMIL saying that in an attempt to show solidarity. Mind you, she also said she thinks it’s a “shame” that in a few generations we’ll all be “caramel coloured” because of “mixed marriages”...so actually, maybe she is a troll!

I’m not online much and had no idea about Russia and the US election. I have some cousins who voted Trump and I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. I wonder if that’s the explanation. They just said “they’re both as bad as each other but Hillary is a liar and fraudster”.

WhippettyWeekend · 21/12/2018 15:24

Sorry I didn’t mean “regarding your point four” (good idea) but your point 3, in case that wasn’t clear
