It’s wrong to be telling her to get a grip. This is a serious issue. Young black children should be able to easily access products that represent them. So no the op shouldn’t get a fucking grip. But like I said op you need to approach the designer. They need to be alerted to the fact that their is a customer who would buy that option.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 19/12/2018 15:43

Why is it ridiculous that op wants to buy a personalised bag with a picture of a black girl on it to give to a black girl?

Aghhh didn't say it was ridiculous to want a product with a picture of a black girl on it, she said the Op was being ridiculous in this situation, which she is. She is complaining about something which can be resolved by using a different design or website its not like she cannot get the desired product anywhere else.

SilverySurfer · 19/12/2018 15:43

No-one is saying she is unreasonable re what she wants, people are pointing out that it's pointless having a go at the website - they aren't their products - she needs to contact the person who designed the item and who is selling it via the website. Why is that so difficult to understand.

Ohyesiam · 19/12/2018 15:45

Am surprised people don’t understand your first post.
Yes it’s rubbish that there’s not an image suitable for you. Did you manage to get hold of the designer?

Crunchymum · 19/12/2018 15:45

Can you clarify if the picture of the white girl is on the bag

MrsJayy · 19/12/2018 15:47

So you want to gi ve a bag to a nonwhite child is that right? I don't think you are being unreasobable to want to have non white face on a personalised bag,

Usernumbers1234 · 19/12/2018 15:50

Very unreasonable. They are a market place, a one man / woman company has designs of products on there.

They don’t have one that fits your requirements, they have offered a solution.

What on Earth is the problem?

This isn’t some global conglomerate not offering something, this is a sole trader with a limited number of products.

vuripadexo · 19/12/2018 15:52

She's being told to get a grip (I'm black btw) because zazzle is a marketplace and frankly it's not their fault. It's like complaining to ebay.

She's just ignoring those posts though. It makes complaints about racism look bad when someone clearly just has an axe to grind.

YoungLennyGodber · 19/12/2018 15:56

YABVU, I’m afraid.

They’ve offered you a solution- contact the designer directly. There’s nothing else they can actually do.

Confused
PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 19/12/2018 16:00

I thought this was going to be about one of those personalised children’s books where you pick a cartoon character based on the child’s colouring- some of them aren’t very diverse.

But as others have said, it’s up to the individual designer rather than Zazzle. They’re just an online marketplace, they arent responsible for the product ranges of their sellers.

ScrantonTheElectricCity · 19/12/2018 16:04

Thanks for the replies - and vuripadexo Im not "ignoring the posts" give me a chance to reply fgs! And "an axe to grind" sheesh, get a grip yourself - I have only asked a question and am reading the replies.

Im not a "tweter" but I will be making an account to contact them yes. But my point was ( and thank you to those who see it) I only have to do about 5 clicks if I want a white girls image, but a non white image I have to tweet the seller and arrange it that way. Why is that right?

But as always, I appreciate the MN views - which is why I posted. It is easy to get annoyed when things appear unfair and biased in one direction, so it is helpful to be told another POV.

ScrantonTheElectricCity · 19/12/2018 16:04

crunchymum yes the image is on the bag

You are being utterly ridiculous.

KickAssAngel · 19/12/2018 16:09

If there's a designer/producer who wants to sell personalized goods with pictures, and they've gone to the effort of making it possible to change the clothes. writing etc, then having only one skin color option is shitty and excludes all people who aren't white.

If the website then chooses to carry a product that's so biased, then it's OK to bring it to their attention, isn't it?

When H&M sold those sweatshirts with the monkey comments on, people complained to/boycotted H&M, not the producers. I know that websites are different, but surely neither the producer nor the website should be promoting a product that's for white people only?

holidayhope · 19/12/2018 16:09

@Starbitcrazy but we do have plenty of black people who live here. They should be represented.

But OP is being unreasonable being cross with Zazzle. But not being unreasonable being cross in general

53rdWay · 19/12/2018 16:10

So this is the bag/like the bag? And you can personalise other aspects of what’s on there, but not the girl’s skin colour?

YANBU to be annoyed about that. (Although yes, mention to designer selling it.)

Am I being overly annoyed - company only has white girls to chose an image from
dorisdog · 19/12/2018 16:11

YNBU - that's rubbish and I imagine pretty galling of having to go to the trouble of explaining and having to much greater lengths to try and get an image that's more representative. It's thoughtless of them.

ScrantonTheElectricCity · 19/12/2018 16:11

Why PuddinginPerth? Interested to your POV not just stating that (and everyone else who has said the same/get a grip comments with no explanation)

OP posts:
vuripadexo · 19/12/2018 16:12

You don't have to arrange with the seller. you could try etsy or even black sellers or stores.

Sorry but it seems like you do have an axe to grind because zazzle very clearly haven't done anything wrong here. What exactly do you expect zazzle to do? They don't review each seller or product.

And the messages you posted make you look ridiculous. Upbraiding some poor underpaid customer service rep because you don't understand how the company works. It's embarrassing.

SilverySurfer · 19/12/2018 16:13

Starbitcrazy
I wouldn't go to Jamaica and expect images of white people... Is that unfair that they don't represent me?

Absolutely and since over 80% of people in the UK are white, it's not unreasonable of the designer to use the image of a white child.

You are being unreasonable and ridiculous.

ScrantonTheElectricCity · 19/12/2018 16:13

KickAss - thanks that has explained what I mean better than I did

OP posts:
Lockheart · 19/12/2018 16:14

YANBU to be annoyed but YABU to complain to Zazzle about it. It’s like complaining to the shopping mall management about a product you don’t like in River Island. Zazzle can’t do anything; they’re just the platform provider for the shop.

Hedgehoginthefog · 19/12/2018 16:15

I wouldn't go to Jamaica and expect images of white people... Is that unfair that they don't represent me?

But the OP is presumable in and from Britain. Is it wrong that they expect their skin tone to be reflected on a product they are purchasing from a British website.

I do echo what PPs have said about Zazzle being a market place, but I assume they do have some control (e.g. I assume they do not allow offensive images) so I think they maybe could have been more helpful. Not that useful that you can only contact the designer on Twitter either.

So I think YANBU to want this and expect it to be easy to contact the designer, but maybe a little bit (but not totally unreasonable) to expect Zazzle to actually sort it.

Toooldtocareanymore · 19/12/2018 16:16

YABU to be annoyed that someone hasn't produced the design you want, they have obviously missed a marketing trick draw it to their attention- the designer, say you lost a sale as I wanted an image of a coloured girl for football bag, but to be annoyed you cant find what doesn't exist is a waste of time , how many coloured boy images have they on the ballet bags?
