paintinmyhairAgain · 18/12/2018 09:46

got a picture ? is it revealing or see through ?

Pinkyyy · 18/12/2018 09:47

Do you have a picture of the dress? People are generally not as uptight about wearing black to weddings these days and usually advise people to try and brighten the look with their makeup and accessories

pinkdelight · 18/12/2018 09:48

An arty/alternative person's wedding, yes. A conventional wedding, no. You know the happy couple best.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/12/2018 09:48

Well

Short, tight, low cut and lacey?

Longer, looser?
Very traditional wedding / couple?
More modern or alt. couple?
Formal sit down black tie wedding?
Just evening do?
Casual in a field barn wedding?

It just doeends doesn't it?

LilMy33 · 18/12/2018 09:50

Without seeing the dress or knowing the type of wedding it is it’s impossible to say...

FittonTower · 18/12/2018 09:56

I never knew you weren't supposed to wear black to a wedding until i was on Mumsnet and i don't imagine any of my friends would care so yes, i would.

kaytee87 · 18/12/2018 09:57

No

MrsJayy · 18/12/2018 10:03

Ive seen lots of black outfits at weddings I don't think no black is an actual rule. I wore a black shift dress to the last wedding i went to wasn't the odd one out either stick a coloyred jacket with it and it's fine.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 18/12/2018 10:06

The last wedding I went to, the Bride wore a black lacy dress!

MrsJayy · 18/12/2018 10:14

Now if the Op was going to wedding it would be awkward Grin

CardsforKittens · 18/12/2018 10:14

I wouldn't, but you're not me and you probably can, especially if you're a few decades younger than I am. Also I think the 'rule' about not wearing black to a wedding is on the way out, as long as you're not the mother of either of the people getting married.

DroningOn · 18/12/2018 10:17

Depends on the dress. Left dress no, right dress yes!

MrsJayy · 18/12/2018 10:21

Oh that left hand dress Shock

Thentherewascake · 18/12/2018 10:23

depends on the dress, but if appropriate, yes.

That is not a dress 🤣

Augusta2012 · 18/12/2018 10:24

I’ve worn black to weddings with bright accessories and shoes.

JacquesHammer · 18/12/2018 10:24

Black - wouldn't have an issue. All my clothes are black Grin

Lacy - that all depends on the style of the dress!

DaffodilPower · 18/12/2018 10:41

Yes I would and have!

I wore a floor length Lipsy dress, nude coloured just above the knee lining, covered with black lace to the floor, really lovely!

catmumof1 · 18/12/2018 11:26

I wouldn't wear solid black but 2 guests have asked permission to wear black lacy dresses to my wedding next summer and I have zero problem with it. Far more important for guests to be happy and not be pressured into buying something they'll never wear again just to fit in with the traditional wedding guest colour scheme. Probably worth mentioning that it's an alternative-ish wedding and me and DF are more on the alternative side day to day.

NonaGrey · 18/12/2018 11:30

I wouldn’t personally but lots of people do.

SylviaAndSydney · 18/12/2018 11:43

I would, yes. It’s ‘my colour’.
