.. that actually, my toddler and baby don't need fresh PJ's every day?

I complain about the amount of laundry all the time and have only just clocked that I control what the kids wear. They don't need fresh PJ's every day.

What have you realised recently that's actually common sense?

Can't believe you change them that often! Crazy.

Not sure I have a similar story to share...

petalsinthegarden · 18/12/2018 08:10

Not too sure what I was thinking. Rest assured, it won't be happening again!

My friend washes her 4 kids (ranging 5-16) pyjamas every single day as well as every piece of school uniform, clothes they've had on and even bed linen doesn't get more than 7 days old. Ever.
Little wonder her washing machine is constantly breaking down, it must be in constant use.

Littlefrog99 · 18/12/2018 08:21

I came to this exact same realisation just a few days ago. I ran out of DS's winter pj's so retrieved some from the wash basket. They were still clean and smelling fresh!

I also realised that I don't have to run the half-full dishwasher each night, I can wait for the breakfast dishes and run the wash in the morning. Who knew?! I also don't have to wash DS's hair every day. That was a revelation I tell you!

SilverLining10 · 18/12/2018 08:24

In summer we all change pjs every day. But in winter we use them 2 times and then we change it.

Nothisispatrick · 18/12/2018 08:26

I’m forever amazed at the amount of work people (women mostly) give themselves when I read MN.

I do chores when they need doing! Why would you run a half full dishwasher anyway? What a waste of time, energy and a dishwasher tablet.

petalsinthegarden · 18/12/2018 08:29

@HaudYerWheestHen wow, that's.. really a lot. I wash bedsheets once a week.

@Littlefrog99 why do we do these things? Making our own lives harder! I used to wash the dishes/bottles way too often and now I just do twice a day - after breakfast and after dinner. Things are much easier now!

Not quite the same, but I have live in my town for 18 years. Lots of people wear claret/gold striped hats and scarves. It was only this year that it dawned on me that this is the local rugby team colours, and we do not have a massive population of Harry Potter fans 😀

Harleyisme · 18/12/2018 08:32

I wash everything after one use but mainly beacuse i have a ds with autism in nappies so i find his clothes smell quickly. And my youngest ds manages to get every thing dirty within minutes of them being on.

Birdsgottafly · 18/12/2018 08:32

It depends on the kids, some get very messy. Likewise if you have kids that seem to get everything going, washing clothes daily can be part of infection control.

Theoryofmould · 18/12/2018 08:37

Many years ago I did that with mine, everyday was clean pyjamas. Until my mother found out, she eye rolled and told me I was being ridiculous and that my children weren't going to spontaneously combust in unwashed clothes I also used to wash anything worn for an hour or so Grin

PoorMansPeppaPig · 18/12/2018 08:38

Never even thought about it - I change my 2yr olds every day!

Strugglingtodomybest · 18/12/2018 08:43

I’m forever amazed at the amount of work people (women mostly) give themselves

I'm not, but only because I grew up with a mother that seemed to be all about making work for herself - mainly, it seemed to me at the time, so she could then moan about doing it.

Nothisispatrick · 18/12/2018 08:47

I do change dd’s sleepsuit each night but she’s a baby so is sick on them a lot, or just normal milk spills. However she has enough sleepsuits to last about two weeks so I don’t wash everyday.

petalsinthegarden · 18/12/2018 08:49

@BikeRunSki that's brilliant 😂

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 18/12/2018 08:53

I think it depends. My youngest will have a clean babygro on every night as he never seems to stay clean and dry overnight. My other kids will wear their pjs 2 nights unless dirty.
The uniforms get washed every night apart from the jumpers unless they have stains on.

redexpat · 18/12/2018 08:56

You dont have to give them a bath everynight either.

wallyfeatures · 18/12/2018 09:01

pjs last three nights in this house. Bedsheets a week. Most clothes apart from socks and nickers and tights twice unless stained. Each child has a part of their wardrobe known as the 'wear again cupboard'. I was tackling the Mount Everest of washing every day before this regimes was imposed.

differentnameforthis · 18/12/2018 09:02

They also don't need baths everyday. Wink

PlatypusPie · 18/12/2018 09:03

Maybe it’s just a habit you get into from the newborn multi changes of babygros ?

Calzone · 18/12/2018 09:08

No one dies if you leave the bedsheets on longer as well.

Iloveautumnleaves · 18/12/2018 09:11

I think babies & toddlers in particular do need fresh PJ’s every night. Even if a nappy hasn’t leaked, they smell like ‘nappy’.

I also think they get hot, sweaty & grubby during the day running around being toddlers, I think it’s nicer to bath them every evening & put fresh PJ’s on.

Even if you have two nappy age kids it’s still only one wash pw (if it was just PJ’s).

But each to their own.

Picklypickles · 18/12/2018 09:12

Mine need a bath every day, they are usually oozing some kind of sticky goop by the end of the day!

lostlalaloopsy · 18/12/2018 09:22

I was actually thinking about this yesterday. My kids wear clean pjs every day and I'm wondering why I bother?!! I'm going to try and stop doing this. I do wash uniform every day though but that's due to my own issues!!! Plus ds now plays football at lunch and is usually covered in mud most day!

Kahlua4me · 18/12/2018 09:22

All this washing, bodies and clothing, is so bad for our environment. You will have lovely smelling children but no world left for them to enjoy as adults...
