.. that actually, my toddler and baby don't need fresh PJ's every day?

I complain about the amount of laundry all the time and have only just clocked that I control what the kids wear. They don't need fresh PJ's every day.

What have you realised recently that's actually common sense?

Although I seem to have set off the TeamScuzz thing, I would like to point out that I do sometimes take a flannel to my boys' muddy knees before school

Although only if they have PE that day and I'm worried the teacher will notice and realise I never wash them properly

I actually daren't confess the full extent of my family's grottiness. I fear even Team Scuzz would disown me.

SnugglySnerd · 19/12/2018 09:49

I bought some zoflora after everyone on mn raved about it and I can't see the point of it. It smells terrible and seems to do the same as dettol of which we already had a giant bottle. DH uses it to disinfect the bin occasionally but I think the bottle will last the rest of our lives.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 19/12/2018 09:49

Zoflora is a highly scent disinfectant. Supposedly used in teensy quantities as and when, but some people will sploosh it about with gay abandon. There are loads of different scents- imagine if yankee candles signed a deal with dettol.

It's got a bit of a following, to say the least.

petalsinthegarden · 19/12/2018 11:24

I think everyone has different standards. For me, I've starting to realise I do things completely unnecessarily and I'm trying to stop because it's mostly habit.
I have friends who shower twice a week and some who shower twice a day!

OP posts:
Thentherewascake · 19/12/2018 14:02

I think some zoflora smell nicer than bleach, so use it occasionally in the bathroom, but I don't really get why some people seem so keen on disinfecting their entire house twice a day Confused

I am on the clothes-washed-after-one-wear team, but that's it. Disinfectant can't be that good for you, and zoflora is very harmful for your pets so equally bad for your babies.

@BellsAreRinging1

I love my instahangars. I have two in the utility room and two Ikea wall mounted airers. Everything that can be hung, gets hung on a hanger. I haven't used the iron for 5 years.

In response to OP I washed DDs pyjamas when they were soiled when she was younger. Now she wears a pair during the week and a fresh pair at weekends. She goes to breakfast club so no breakfast mess and has a bath each day (I know she doesnt need that but its her wind down routine and she will only brush her teeth at night in the bath). She does have clean uniform for each day though as she is a messy eater who loves rolling around in mud and she does the wraparound care so cant change her after school.

seventhgonickname · 19/12/2018 14:43

My teenager showers everyday and washes her hair.To mitigate her flagrant wasting of the planets precious resources I shower less frequently, reuse towels, don't change the bed sheets weekly(not sure when they were last changed). All washing done on the weekend as we rewear stuff except for pants socks and tights.
I am a closet scuzz.

Oh yes scented detergent is horrible. We stayed in a lovely holiday let this year but the strong scent of the bedding actually kept me awake. Yet more unnecessary chemicals entering our waterways.

Calzone · 19/12/2018 21:30

Ds2 (14y) wears a pair of trousers for the whole week plus maybe 2 shirts a week if he remembers to change.

He showers without fail every single day.

Onescaredmuma · 19/12/2018 22:01

That baby vests are designed to be able to be pulled down over a baby's shoulders I had 2 babies before I worked that out the amount of times I tried to pull vests over their head that had been poosploded in!!
I was guilty of washing PJs every day for an unreasonable amount of time I still do it for my 2 youngest (although dd2 is only because she puts it in the washing basket every bloody morning and for some reason I never work this out until I go to get them for her and I've washed them!!

Pernickity1 · 19/12/2018 22:06

I always considered myself a clean person - until I joined mumsnet. So bizarre to me the lengths people go for no good reason!

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 19/12/2018 23:35

Me too, I thought I was averagely clean occasionally dipping toward scuzzy before MN. Now I KNOW I am scuzzy beyond measure!

QuackPorridgeBacon · 21/12/2018 02:13

Mine get bathed twice a week but only wear clothing once before I wash it. Bed clothes about 1/2 weeks. I don’t have a schedule for it but change them when I feel the need.

Purpleartichoke · 21/12/2018 02:30

Here is another one: infant and toddler pajamas and clothes are basically the same thing. Your kid can just wear what they slept in for most days.

mortifiedmama · 21/12/2018 05:19

DSs skin improved so much once we stopped over washing him. He now gets a bath twice a week unless obviously dirty. No amount of creams, oils, aveeno etc could compensate. I feel awful that I didn't stop washing him sooner.

mortifiedmama · 21/12/2018 05:27

Nothisispatrick stopping wearing underwear at night is the only thing (and I tried so many, many, things) that stopped my awful recurrent thrush. So whilst vaginas can't 'breath' air getting to my vulva is definitely improved by not covering it in fitted clothes over night. I can't wear pj bottoms in bed either. Postpartum is thrush hell for me!

confusedandemployed · 21/12/2018 05:57

I love a MN cleaning thread, the work that people seem to create for themselves is incredible.
Another #teamscuzz member here, night clothes are worn for a good few days, bedclothes /towels washed every once in a while.
I do wash uniform almost daily as DD only has a couple of tops (moving shortly, too stingy to buy more).
I'm an extremely reluctant housekeeper, but my house is certainly not dirty or smelly, despite DDog and his farty bottom and stinky breath.

whynot93 · 21/12/2018 07:54

Goodness I've always bathed them every night then put on fresh pjs 😊 bedding gets changed every week. I'm clearly doing too much. I feel a New Years resolution coming my way..

Looneytune253 · 21/12/2018 08:01

Wow I wash pjs every day and school uniforms too (except jumpers) it’s never occurred to me not to

Iamstegosaurusthethird · 21/12/2018 08:35

Is there such a thing as unscented detergent? I've never seen it. I don't use fabric softener as I don't think it adds that much softness and smells too strong

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 21/12/2018 09:49

I think all detergents have an aroma, it's just whether or not you buy something that is marketed as being scented and uses it as a selling point. So generic clean laundry scent vs purposely added tropical unicorn lily fart or whatever.

I also don't use fabric conditioner, these seem to be highly scented!

Snowydaysaregreat · 21/12/2018 10:08

Pj's everyday here too for all 4 of us plus dsd at weekends. Same with unifrms, towels etx.

greathat · 21/12/2018 11:08

No wonder the planet's fucked
